0.0 | friv | February 8th 19 | I roll up my sleeves and rub my hands in anticipation. A new Ariana Grande album has just
been released. I click the Internet Explorer icon on my taskbar and make my way over to
Sputnikmusic.com. I type Grande's name in the search bar, only after spelling her first
name wrong twice. I hurriedly click on her newest album - "thank u, next", is it called?
Hmmm, maybe I could do something about millenials, maybe a bit with that "u", perhaps? I
look next at the tracklist. Ooh, all the titles are in lowercase? Definitely something
there. Eventually, after some pondering, I scroll down, only to read a soundoff that
reads, "I roll up my sleeves and rub my hands in anticipation. A new Ariana Grande album

it. And I stop in my tracks."

4.0 excellent | iGuter | February 8th 19 | Ariana started dominating herself now she's dominating you. Thank U, Next continues the realness, self care,
and positive vibes that were in sweetener, but subtly adds an edgier bite. After all the crazy publicity with highs
and devastating lows surrounding her, the album was a perfect testament of dealing with it. Her follow up feels
like the perfect companion piece to that album, with reflective lyrics and sonicically consistent. It's a real player as
the first, and could be, the best pop record of the year

4.0 excellent | Doublez38 | July 22nd 19 | With conviction and impertinence, Ariana Grande delivers us an amazing and excellent album. At the height of her potential, she was able to transcribe and reinvent her musical influences, removing her aspects too girly to create a totally impassive, combative and very talented character. At first, when I listened to the first single or the previous album, I thought that the character would never have the strength to impose himself because musically his music had a lot of limits, but on Thank You, Next I must admit that the whole thing remains very solid. Nowadays, whether in Pop, RnB or even Rap, we often have the impression of hearing Ariana from others.r

3.3 great | Erwann S. STAFF | August 3rd 21 | Despite focusing a tad too much on trap beats - pop Ari > rap Ari, i know that's a brave take -, this is Grande's second best album behind Dangerous Woman. This is mainly due to the fact that there ain't no horrendous guest feature, and even the lesser tracks are slightly-above-filler material.

3.0 good | charlopiano | July 2nd 21 | For an artist with such an unbelievable talent, it's a shame that her albums always feel disappointing.
Bump |
2.0 poor | Bedex | June 24th 19 | Her most consistent album, in that there are almost no truly bad tracks, but also very few tracks I dig. 4 and 12 are probably the only kinda jams, with 7 being nice too, while 3 is probably the most annoying track. Ari keeps the trap/rap influences from Sweetener, but watered down with more pop - which isn't in itself a bad idea. The famous tracks are meh too. Her most forgettable album since her debut? 2.2

4.0 excellent | angrytortilla | June 5th 19 | A good, solid pop album. Ariana does a good job of not painting herself in too good a light- she's broken and wants good things, but she can be the bad guy too.

4.0 excellent | cjbizzlebizzle | April 24th 19 | thank u, next is so much more than your typical mainstream pop album as Ariana Grande manages to drop catchy hits (NASA, 7 rings) and some very personal and emotional tracks surrounding the poppy ones. After what Ariana has gone through in the last few years (Manchester, Mac Miller) it is hard to even imagine having the energy to produce new music but here Ariana has triumphed. The combo of pop, R&B and trap beats is luscious and produces a very deep and often melancholy atmosphere to support Ariana's excellent vocals. The beats all around are just fantastic and things really culminate with the wonderful guitar forward, trap bass backed Bad Idea. Beyond that Imagine, NASA, Fake Smile, Ghostin, 7 Rings and thank u, next are all really, really exemplary modern pop songs covering the obvious hits to the very deep and introspective. This album makes you feel like you get to know Ariana a bit more than just some pop goddess who you see on TV. It is reminiscent of how Carly Rae changed her trajectory with EMOTION and hopefully Ariana can continue in this direction.

4.0 excellent | TheManMachine | March 15th 19 | Most captivating perhaps is that for a singer of Grande's stature it's so, well, hers. No frills, no fuss, no bombastic guest pandering, not pored over, vaguely personal while preserving that ol pop-star ambiguity. Can't say I'm emotionally invested in her ability/alacrity to buy anything or beckon others' boyfriends, but I laud her forward vulnerability and lack of bullshit. Even with a horrifying concert bombing and suddenly deceased ex-boo fresh under her belt, such "baggage" always just lies under the surface, never subject to harping or detail or direct reference. Which some may call commercial+cautious; I lean more towards poised+professional. And right: full listen is a cohesive breeze, each song specific, a voice that dazzles without overdoing it, steady pop mastery. Faves of which abolish sham smiles and spell out a space agency's acronym to transmit that this star needs some space.

2.5 average | notkanyewest | February 11th 19 | AG has said that she'd like to put out music the way rappers do, and that makes sense to me. This feels like a decent datpiff era rap mixtape- 70% filler, 30% really inspired. The production is pretty limp and forgettable across the board, and I find the more hip-hop leaning songs, although she's obviously having fun making them, tend to play against her strengths. ("NASA")
