Anthrax changes things up a bit, fulling embracing the dark themes that were once just hinted on previous outtings, and they slow down the music often in favor of grim chugfests. The result is actually better than you think. "Gridlock" and "Discharge" are speedy riffests that can be favorably compared to their ATL material while the title trackfinds a sweetspot in midtempo and thrashy riffing. "Keep It In The Family" and "Blood" are the prime suspects in overstretched material (which is perhaps the biggest flaw here), but their riffs and lyrics are excellent. They would release dark material after this album, but this is the most consistent among them, and it has enough in common with their older material to make for a comfortable transition and a career highlight.

My favorite Anthrax album next to Among The Living. Heavy and complex songs with great instrumentalization and a dark, sinister tone amplified by it's strong production value.

I wanted to like this album very much after reading numerous reviews praising its goodness. I feel cheated. First off, some of the songs are too long which leads to boredom since Anthrax aren't that good at protracting (boring) ideas. Secondly, the riffs are mediocre. Some of it are okay while the rest is easily forgettable. But it is the vocals that make me cringe as though I had sucked a huge lemon. Joey Belladonna sucks, period. Devoid of any real passion or emotion, I proclaim him as the second worst thrash metal vocalist after Dave Mustaine. Can you say, "Darn, I wish they hired a better singer"?

This is my favorite anthrax album,and one of the best thrash metal albums of all time.The songs are a bit to long but besides that this is one of the best thrash metal albums of all time!

Clearly the most serious and progressive Belladonna-era album of theirs. Definitely a grower, my rating now is a borderline 3.5/4. Might well rise in the future.

The final album of Anthrax's glory years, and the last until 2011 to feature their best vocalist, Joey Belladonna. Darker, heavier, and more complex than any of their previous releases. Some songs drag on a bit, though, and that's coming from someone who doesn't mind long songs at all. Highlights include Time, Blood, H8 Red, and One Man Stands.

Persistence of Time probably has the best production out of any Anthrax album. You just gotta love the way the instruments are so perfectly welded together to create a sonic avalanche. My favorites on here are probably "Blood" and "Keep it in the Family".

My personal favorite Anthrax album, from start to finish Persistence never stops ruling. Everything about it is incredible but it was the cover of Got The Time that really gets me every time. such an amazing song and Joeys vocals are at their absolute peak on that. Throughout this has some of the best prog-thrash i have ever heard , with its only flaw being that it is a little too long for my liking.
