There's no question that Shad is a talented MC. His flow hits a comfortable balance between relaxed and energetic, his rhyme schemes can be complex to the point of attention-grabbing, and his voice is generally easy on the ears. Only problem is that he doesn't do much to distinguish himself from other above-average "conscious" rappers. The production ranges from '90s throwback to more sleek and modern (at least for '06), and while none of the beats here are bad, few are exceptional. As a whole, this album doesn't have any sub-par tracks, but only 1 or 2 rise above the rest. Standout: I Get Down

Shad is definitely a threatening force in the modern rap scene. It's even more awesome that he's Canadian. Honestly, he starts out this album with some of the freshest and most easy-listening hip-hop I've heard in a while, but it trails out at the end and becomes a little too dull. "I Get Down" is bright and cheery and shows how confident Shad is. "I'll Never Understand" is on the opposite spectrum, one of the saddest songs I've ever sat through and so powerful. Recommended Songs: I Get Down, Out of Love, I'll Never Understand
