Volbeat solidified their sound on this album. It's a little less blatantly rock'n'roll and a little less metal, with more emphasis on Volbeat's distinctive style. As with any change of sound, opinions on this are mixed. Obviously, I'm all for it; this album is both heavy and melodic, badass and catchy (oh so catchy).
Also worth noting is the lasting value of this album. Maybe it's just me, but after a year of intermittent but heavy listening, it still rocks almost as hard as it did the fifth time through.

Even though I don't usually listen to harder stuff like this I must say that I enjoy this album quite alot. The songs are so catchy that this album could be a good introduction into harder stuff for people that are not into these genres.

Volbeat continue throwing riffs at a tremendous pace. This time however, it is easily understandable that they want to experiment with their music but at the same time stay committed to their style. "Mary Ann's Place" introduces female vocals, "Still Counting" shows a groovy side of Volbeat while "Making Believe" and "Broken Man & The Dawn" have a radio-friendly-kind-of approach. However, you can still find a handful of 'classic' Volbeat tracks able to rock your socks off: "Hallelujah Goat", "Maybelline I Hofteholder", "I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry"

Oh FINALLY, some track differentiation!! No seriously, a cameo appearance, a couple cover songs, and now saving their heavy riffs even more than on their previous album. This is like their previous album but slightly enhanced. Oh sure, some may argue how this album doesn't "rock as hard" compared to their prior work, but I would have to disagree on the counts that this album now focuses on a sound that relies on a equal effort on all members of the band as opposed to just relying on their vocal melodies and their guitar sections.
