| 3.0 good | Chino smoking it up! | October 30th 18 | I liked this but I just take it for what it is. Guys having fun with their big talent going rSantana, prog rock and jazzy hiphop. A bit "hicky" overall but good&cool experimental stuff.

| 2.0 poor | seabeast7 | October 12th 18 | My expectations were very high for this album and they all came down crashing to a fiery death. After the 3 singles were released "G.O.A.T.", "O.D." and "Yas" were released, I expected a good album full of catchy songs with different approaches to Polyphia's new direction, characterized by trappy beats and Polyphia's trademark guitar play style. The guitar playing was great as always in this album. All I got going into the album were more forgettable versions of the aforementioned singles. Same feel, mostly same approach, even almost the same drum beat. While I was waiting for the songs to start, I was coming to an abrupt realization that each song was ending. Standout tracks besides the 3 singles include "Death Note"and... well that. I was left with wanting a lot more for an album that had the potential to be groundbreaking, but was very lukewarm instead. 2/5

| 3.2 good | Erwann S. EMERITUS | November 7th 22 | Well in the end this is more of twinkly weedly guitar, BUT there are trap beats. Interesting on the first couple of tracks, but then quickly wears off - not all virtuosos are good songwriters.

| 0.0 | Your own inadequacies have twisted your mind into a pretzel that needs a bit of salt. | April 14th 20 | I'm an unabashed Polyphia fanboy. I don't even care to term my affinity for the Texas-originating group a guilty pleasure. I strongly feel that Tim Henson is incredibly in tune with modern music, and his injection of pop and hip-hop sensibilities into Polyphia's mathy foundation is an admirable accomplishment. There are so many bangers on this record - OD, Nasty, Bad, Saucy, Rich Kids, G.O.AT. - that I can't help but rate this one highly. I'm eagerly anticipating Polyphia's next record and have full expectations that they'll surpass NLND.

| 3.0 good | Jared Floryan | November 21st 18 | For better or worse, everything's bigger in Texas: hair, mascots, BBQ, state pride, reality TV, etc. Speaking of big, four-piece troupe Polyphia have been getting a whole lot of talk lately, and their third studio effort is... something else. New Levels New Devils is unambiguously instrumental math rock in style, with vestiges of prog, trap, djent and R&B to be found over the course of the album's length. It's technically impressive in terms of musicianship and the melting pot of genres here sounds rad on paper, but the composing leaves so much to be desired. That and the mixing/general production at large comes off being super sterile in all caps; this kinda cleanliness ought to be outlawed! Even so, though, I ain't about to pretend this record doesn't come without its fun moments. There's certainly room for improvement, so if these Dallas boys keep zeroing in on their advantages while downsizing the bad points for subsequent releases, then I'm game. Light 3.

| 4.5 superb | AlphaGoon | November 8th 18 | A truly amazing instrumental album that is a pleasure to listen to from front to back. Incredibly outstanding, technical performances by both guitarists, bassist and drummer. Despite what some people with short attention spans or poor listening skills might say, each song has its own theme (vibe, unique set of ideas, whatever term you'd like to use) aside from a select few tracks, which is perhaps the only thing holding this album back from a 5 (although those songs are still fantastic and a joy to listen to).

| 4.5 superb | NoXoR | October 26th 18 | Doing a total 180. This album is unreal. It takes a few more listens to dissect whats going on, but its worth the focus.
