Man, this is one hell of an album. Really well paces. You can hear their influences pretty strongly but it's not distracting. I love how the vocals are pushed way back in the mix. For such a young band they play with extreme maturity and only play what's needed to make the song better.

Death Spells is a great post-metalgaze record, that's for sure. Its sole - but major - issue is that it tells everything it has to tell in its first track before repeating the same formula over and over again - "Yawning" being an exception because of its constant groove and lack of crescendocore antics. Definitely cool shi with potent production and decent compositions, but definitely something that would have tickled my shizzle much more 10 years ago.

Excellent shoegaze album with lots of great influences. Alcest-y guitars, touches of Sigur Ros ambient interludes, Deafheaven harsh parts, and a couple other good things. Does not quite transcend as the aforementioned influences may suggest, but still great. 4.0

These guys are in my local scene and have made a name for themselves very quickly. I know so many people who have been opened up to the world of shoegaze, post rock, and post metal through this album. What a release, what a band. I'm pulling for them to hop on Deathwish Inc. and start conquering the world. Listen to this fucking album.

Phenomenal album. Both the softer and heavier passages are perfectly executed and juxtaposed for maximum effect. Every song has a unique sound and an excellent sense of progression. Production is spot on. Give it a listen.
