I was worried from Mantra that this would be like That's The Spirit but way worse. Instead, it feels like much more of a refinement of what they were shooting for then, with a lot more big pop hooks and some good atmospheric electronic pieces. Aside from Mantra and Heavy Metal this record feels like a big step up from their last.

The widely polarizing opinions of Amo have been amusing to observe, and one that the band
seems to enjoy (to an extent) as well. Make no mistake, Amo smashes together alternative metal
with sugary pop, edm, traces of their metalcore past and even a dose of nu-metal: blowing it all up in
a cinematic fashion. Elements of Linkin Park, PVRIS, and even 30 STM can all be heard through this.
If reading (some) of these names make you want to gag spare me a few more moments: Amo is
an absolute exhilarating ride. Sure the lyrics are cheesy, but it matches the over-top nature of the
music. The tracks are diverse, layered beautifully, and flow in and out of each other in seamless
fashion that is so 2019 pop-centric yet unique in it's own sense. So I think there is a question of how
you approach listening to Amo. BMTH I believed always had a poppy-core beneath their previous
projects, and on Amo it sounds like their having a hell of a time just embracing every aspect of
who they've always been, while managing to streamline it into a cohesive yet adventurous 50+ minute
experience. Tracks individually might sound a bit generic, but as part of the track flow it has so much
more punch. You can be super surious and call this audio-bile, or loosen up a little and embrace the
multiple flavors, and the cheesy/kooky nature of Amo.

Y'all are being overdramatic. I was kinda leery of this at first due to the singles myself (except for the Grimes single; that one is a bop), but really outside of those tracks, this album is quite great, especially the opener and closer. Really digging the electronic experiments here. The only real downside is the extremely generic and tired nu-metal tracks, but if you can look past those there's something pretty good here. "I Apologise If You Feel Something," "Ouch," and "Fresh Bruises" are some really neat highlights of the album for sure.

Honestly, this album really gets better on every listen. It is a bit of a grower but after even a feel listens, even the weaker cuts, like "Fresh Bruises" is pretty solid. This album includes electronics fantastically and is not just "band got bit chasing the imagine dragon trend". Welp time to edit this onto my Album of the year for 2019 list

I flip-flopped the hardest on this album because BMTH no longer plays music that naturally lends itself to my taste. But since Amo was such a huge hit for them it was hard to ignore the resulting the noise. This album is just barely qualifies as rock though I would say it has more of an experimental dark-pop feel to it. "MANTRA", "wonderful life", "sugar honey ice & tea", and "heavy metal" are the 4 actual rock songs on the album and I grew into liking all of them a good amount. The remaining tracks are good connective tissue between these 4 songs, and don't usually amount to more than that. But I would say the first half of the album has a better cohesion.

I want to say this is their best album, granted the bar has always been close to a 3.5 their entire career. This album has a lot of elements that hold it together most of the time the entire way through. I've never looked at this band like it they were the second coming, and I don't think I ever will. That doesn't matter though, this is unironically good pop/rock/alternative/electronic with each having their unique way of spinning a darker tone/timbre on it.

Following That's the Spirit, with whom the band had decided to take a new direction, which had divided opinion but which had also given the band a second wind, Amo is a more advanced and refined version. There will still be a lot of differences of opinion, for my part I think this album is a success. BMTH is now multidimensional and has a broader vision. They have very well matched their influence in the year 90/2000 by crossing them with the modern sound that he is trying to put in place here. Not everything is perfect, some very good tracks cross paths with more "déjà vu" or more simplistic tracks, but that doesn't prevent us from enjoying the whole thing because it also creates a certain charm.

I had this at a 1.5, but then I realized how horrible my decision was and I corrected myself. Nothing on this album is new. You could find similar songs being played on Top 40 radio, EDM stations, alt-rock stations, and butt-rock stations. This is a band who desperately wants a new sound but fails to implement anything new except for ripping off Linkin Park in full circle instead of the first two albums like That's The Spirit.

I was a Bring Me The Horizon fan at one point in my life; and of course that "point" of my life
was during the dreadful early-mid teens, when the "world's against you" and "nobody understands."
Bring Me were just angst-riddled and pissed off enough that it attracted my untaught ears, and
their at-the-time most commercial effort "Sempiternal" was on repeat for weeks on end.
After the many weeks of listening to nothing but Bring Me, I just completely gave it up, and I
hadn't bothered to seek out this band since; or at least not until "MANTRA" popped up on my
YouTube recommended for some reason unbeknownst to me. To put it simply and shortly, I was
unimpressed. It wasn't exactly "oh-god-please-make-it-stop" bad, no; it was "this-is-utterly-
lifeless-and-devoid-of-human-emotion" bad. There's simply nothing of worth here. There's
nothing here that you haven't already heard on top 40 radio on your way to work.

All of my critiques and moments of cringe aside, instrumentally this is not terrible (guitars could be more interesting) and vocals work well. My one critique that I cannot leave out, if BMTH could figure out how to write more interesting lyrics, then I would be sold. I think BMTH's audience might not really care for that though; I am definitely coming from a PoV that listened to BMTH prior to transformation, and the lyrics were still pretty terrible, which has perpetually left me on the fence with them.
