While it may be repetitive at times, the lyrics are moving and packed with truth. Away From The Sun is an uplifting and beautiful record.

A very good album. You have to pay dividends where it's due. Here Without You played at Eddie
Guerrero's funeral for crying out loud. 3 Doors Down sadly became a band I got burned out on and
given Brad Arnold's annoying, Mississippi farm boy personality, it's safe to say why this band
isn't popular anymore. But they were good 10 or so years ago.

Why bother buying albums like this? It was a few radio hits plus several songs thrown in to make an album's worth of material. Bands like this are the reason cassette singles sold so well at Wal-Mart. I should point out I never owned this album, but was subjected to it on several occasions through no fault of my own.

I wonder what happened after The Better Life that caused this album to be so downed in pace and sound. I could deal with it through the first bunch of songs, but as each song became a little more softer and familiar in that pace, I really couldn't deal with it anymore. The singles are pretty good and a few songs here and there are well done, but for the most part it just seems like the band became depressed, therefore releasing Away From the Sun.

3 Doors down are a band which try to do far too many things in one album. They are trying to incorporate soft rock with heavy riffs and it just doesn't blend. The construction of the songs is extremely transparent and I just got the feeling that different sections of the songs had been written seperately and shoddily bridged together.
They seem to change the tone, key and mood of their songs just for the sake of variation and it just has the effect of jumping around quite a lot. I feel that their ballads (When I'm gone, Here without you) and the softer songs are genuinely good songs and they need to stop sticking bits in because they feel that's what a song should have.

Boring, bland, uninspired, mediocre, and sterotypical are all words that I can use to describe this album. While it obviously does have a few highs, it features many more lows. When I'm Gone and Away From the Sun both serve as horrible mainstream rock tracks, and filler songs such as The Road I'm On and Going Down In Flames make the album no better. The two main highlights are the emotive and cleverly written Changes, and my guilty pleasure, Here Without You.

A fan of mainstream rock such as Creed, Nickelback, and Alterbridge will definitely enjoy this album, but not many others will.
