4.0 excellent | Fernando Alves STAFF | October 20th 18 | Unlike later releases, which have a clear musical direction (especially A Perfect Absolution), Aethra seems to drift through the band's discography, almost like a musical retrospective. As expected, the French tech masters deliver one of the most interesting technical death metal albums of the year.

3.5 great | Bedex | October 5th 20 | Ok I lost my notes like a dungus so this won't be very detailed sorry future me, but essentially
this is my favourite Gorod LP. They drop most of the wankery bit, when they are here it often
works - like the intro solo on 2 I think -, and there are loads of influences. It feels like they
tried to move away from death/deathcore and expanded to a proggier side, with traces of Opeth,
Mastodon and stuff like that. There are still some questionable vocals but overall this is really
quite fun - there's even bm drumming in places, and you can always count of them to line up 20
riffs per minute. However, even though they do offer some pauses and bridges, by track say 7 it
gets quite tiresome, dropping this below the critical 3.8 bar, and frankly the last track is
awful and brings all of their old flaws back. Quite a poor way to end an album that could've been
really fun had it been 15min shorter. 3.65

3.0 good | GamamJ | August 4th 20 | A great album, but nothing really new from Gorod, and possibly their least interesting yet. After a hell of an album exploring jazz-themes in 2016?s Maze, Ęthra goes back to more ?straight-forward? tech-death, at least for Gorod to be.

4.0 excellent | Chino smoking it up! | October 20th 18 | Is amazing, and much like A Perfect Absolution, how the proggy&tech stuff on these dudes serves
and is really encrusted on the songwriting. Plus I got a weak spot for the esoteric feeling that
flows throughout some of the tracks. The vocals are great and varied and the midpitch vocals gives
a rare emotion to this genre which I really dig too. Faves: Bekthen's Curse; And The Moon turned
Black and A Light Unseen.
The minor stepback is that sometimes it gets a bit too spastic and the sound is often interrupted
in some of the tracks.
