Simply everything you want out of Haken. The vocal harmonies from The Mountain are back and in full force,
fierce riffs, huge melodies, moments of virtuosity, though never falling in self-indulgence, everything blends
together to create a modern progressive metal classic. When the only complaint you have is that it is only 45
minutes long, you know the music in it is just great.

I wasn’t a big fan of Haken before this album. Before Vector Haken were just another traditional progressive metal band that seemed to put showmanship above songwriting, and they also lacked any kind of edge. I’m not saying they were ever bad, just unremarkable. With Vector Haken have fixed just about every issue I had with them. The most noticeable change is the heaviness and modern feel found throughout the album. On Vector, Haken no longer sound like a dated prog band. This is due to the modern prog and djent influences that have been added to their formula. They’ve also got better at writing actual songs and memorable melodies while still showing off their chops. If Haken can continue down this path, I can see great things for them in the decade to come.

Haken tone down their awful keyboard work from last time and shorten down the album length, and in return we end up with one of the best prog albums of the year.

Holy shit, this stuff is amazing, HOLY SHIT! The only issue is it not being long enough, but that doesn't matter, since the songs are so frickin' amazing and deep. Veil kicks royal ass, maybe song of the year.

Haken's second best imo. They focus more on the "djenty"-etal side of things, while still containing good amounts of wank, adventure and that signature quirk (see the jazz break in Veil). Overall a really fantastic and enjoyable album.

The shortest album by Haken holds amazing tracks like Puzzle Box and Veil. Being a doctor myself, I found the concept of the album intriguing as well. Musically, I felt that this album was glorious at its place but not on par with their previous musical creations.

Haken continue onward in their journey of progressive metal with their heaviest and most Djent influenced album to date. If you have listened to Haken before don't expect anything massively different besides the introduction of heavier riffs and Djent rhythms. If you have not listened to Haken expect synth tracks that approach but don't quite reach self parody, proggy technicality at every turn, great vocal melodies by Ross who sounds as strained and pitch corrected as ever and a level of prog wankery that is just below the limit before being annoying. Haken has gotten heavier here but in the end the short run time and the concept driven album has sacrificed some of the variety they usually bring to the table with most of the tracks following a similar formula. Worth a decent amount of listens but if you have heard Haken before the Djent/heavy elements only go so far to keep this one fresh.
