Misery Signals manages to combine vocals so raw with heartfelt lyrics and beautiful music. This is one album that stands out among the metalcore releases not only from the same year but also to those being out put out to this very day. While the previously mentioned ingredients sound so common and easy to blend, that is only half of it. With this album, Misery Signals gets their message across whether expressing through brutality, beauty, or both in just a single song. There is no sign of force on this release, meaning instrumentation is not trying too hard to sound technical nor are the vocals trying to sound as brutal as possible. The album just flows like a liquid running from your ears to your heart.

It's math/metalcore done the right way. It's got brutality, technicality, quirky genre breaks, and most of all fantastic clean guitar work. This is one of the best mathcore albums I've ever heard, though most songs are about 30 seconds too long, but not to worry, the tracks are awesome.

A measuring stick for the genera of metalcore. Perfect blend of melody, brutality, and beauty. The lyrics are also extremely powerful and standout in this genera.

In a genre where the music is repetitive and uninspired Misery Signal's debut release stands out and breaks the mold. The best prase to describe Of Malice.... is "ambient hardcore." It has a sort of dreamy atmosphere while the brutality of the drumming and jesse's voice presses down perfectly over it.

Chick flick metalcore disguised as a tough metalcore album. Those whiny vocals are completely rancid, especially the part where he says "be with ME, toNIGHT", christ... Sappy sad boy metalcore album for 15-year-old teenagers, that sums up this album perfectly.

This is one of my favorite metalcore releases of all time, right up there with Hopesfall's No Wings To Speak Of EP. Everything just comes together perfectly, Devin's production is flawless, the instrumental work is just insane, (Branden's drumming in particular), and Jesse provides a very emotional, yet passionate approach to the vocal tracks. Easily one of the greatest metalcore records ever made. I know Controller is more popular among the metalcore community, as is Karl as a vocalist, but IMO, the band will never be able to top this record.

"Of Malice and the Magnum Heart" is a masterpiece within Metalcore, marking a period of transition that came from great bands, for the generic item that destroyed the genre. Everything has its construction perfectly, which establishes the Misery Signals as an absurd band within the genre. "Of Malice and the Magnum Heart" is that kind of album that you don't need to say too much now, since in recent years, everything that is exalted about them is not enough.

The debut for Misery Signals, Of Malice and the Magnum Heart, offers up some of the most powerful metalcore tracks to date utilizing tight breakdowns, melodic leads and vicious vocals to create both energetic and emotional atmospheres. A Victim, A Target is one of the best openers that comes to mind setting the stage for classics like This Year Summer Ended in June and The Stinging Rain. Even though Misery Signals are more mature than most on their first album, in both playing and production, and use Worlds & Dreams for some relief the album still gets tiring in the latter half. The average intensity is so high and perhaps relies on a few elements, even though they are excellent ones, too often leaving the listener drained for the long enders Five Years and Difference of Vengeance and Wrongs. Pacing and trimming would have brought this one over the top. Despite that, Of Malice and the Magnum Heart is a true treat with an unforgettable use of melodic chordal arrangements and breakdowns that make me wanna get up and cause chaos.

Still to this day regarded as one of the best if not the best metalcore debut of all time, and it's apparent why after just one listen. The album is so well put together that every song transitions into each other including the last track which fades back into the first one. There is no filler at all, as every single song on here seems to be used to its full potential. MS does such an amazing job of mixing melody, emotion, and agression. Anyone who knows this band knows that they were born out of loss, and the raw emotion can just be felt while listening. The best track by far is the instrumental "Worlds and Dreams". The song is perfectly placed as a break in the action in the middle of the CD and is just absolutely breath taking. This will always be regarded as one of the best metal albums of all time period.

And it begins...Misery Signals' awesome debut. Sure, a lot of it sounds similar -to itself. No one does it like Mis Sigs. Many have tried, all have failed. To this day, and many more to come most likely, the last two songs on this album (titled "Five Years" and "The Difference of Vengeance and Wrongs") are in my top 25 list of favourite songs. Ever. That fact by itself is enough to give this album at least a 4. But it helps that the rest of the album kicks a lot of ass too.

Only truly appreciating this album more than three years after first listening to it, Of Malice and the Magnum Heart is the true definition of a slow burner. For an album to remain relevant in my life for all that time and for me to still find new things to love about it? That's why it deserves a 5.0. That, and the outro to 'Five Years' is just the best goddamn thing ever.
