It's the type of ridiculous tongue-in-the-cheek, cheesy metalcore that we've come to hate within the past few years, but Ice Nine Kills for the most part manages to make it work in the best way possible and I have no idea why.

Very difficult record to rate. Like every INK release, this thing has some absolute, undeniable bangers (first three songs, Axe-Mas, IT is the End). However, the other half of the record is relatively pedestrian and unmemorable. I'm sure I'll be returning to the aforementioned songs pretty often, but I can't see myself listening to this from front to back with any sort of regularity.

The album's really good songs are really good and the ones that aren't that good fall short. There were tons of creative moments in the album and there were moments that made you feel like "why they did they do that?" There were some songs that had awesome moments combined with generic ones. Like the song "rocking the boat" had that jaws hook near the end of the song and even the instrumental changed speeds at that point which was such a good desicion but the portions before that part were just "meh". This album had potential but it didn't live up to it.

Some parts were surprisingly fun. Other parts were between bland and cringe. Impressions range from 2/5 to 4/5, ultimately leaving the album feeling both consistent and lacking a feeling of unification in structure. Lyrics were cheesy, delivery was done well for its style.

Some songs rely a bit too much on clean vocals for my taste, but the songs that go hard truly go hard, and there are no
truly bad songs here. The opening 3 tracks are insanely good, and somehow Merry Axe-Mas makes Silent Night, Deadly
Night sound awesome, to pick a few highlights.
But above all else, The Silver Scream succeeds in being what is most likely the most fun metalcore album released in the
past decade. Ice Nine Kills know how to write good hooks and how to lean on a gimmick just the right amount. The result is
an undeniably catchy metalcore album that serves as the perfect jumping-on point for anyone looking to get into INK.

I am not a huge fan of super heavily themed lyrics/music, but with that being said, I think they executed it about as well as they could, aside from a few choruses I found a little underwhelming, and some sections of the instrumentals that I felt they could have added a little more flair to. The vocalist is objectively very talented in both singing and screaming, and the guitarists are talented as well, though I know they're capable of more (see The Predator Becomes The Prey), but I'll always have a soft spot for this band. That being said, I wish they would take the amazing song writing found on their all-time best song, The Greatest Story Ever Told, and apply it to these "theme albums". That would truly be a spectacle. Until then, these guy still put out above average metalcore.

This record was clearly designed to not be taken so seriously, but even still I have a hard time stomaching a lot of the cringe-inducing lyrics and tongue-in-cheek puns they choose to insert seemingly everywhere. Enjoy Your Slay is a prime example of the worst of these lol.rOtherwise, if you can block out the corniness, the music itself is relatively solid. Spencers vocals are well performed, if goofy as fuck, and the instrumentation is good despite them not really breaking any new ground. If you're into the INK brand, you'll dig it.
