Oil of Every Pearl's Un-Insides is an adventure in a surreal, futuristic landscape that feels like a reflection of Sophie's soul. Sophie absolutely excels at creating an invigorating experience from beginning to end where every turn feels like it has purpose in creating a stunning overall album; there is no time wasted. Sophie takes us from the emotional, quiet opener to more rhythmic beat-driven bangers and then to ambient tracks with sounds that are open to interpretation and back again. The flow of the album is just perfect. The record is so diverse and has just enough of both the poppy and experimental approaches, at different times separate and others together. A lot of the sound here is glitchy and even mechanical but what Sophie does so well is back that up and contrast it against passionate and playful vocals. Faceshopping, Immaterial, Is It Cold in the Water? and Ponyboy are all essentials and the transition between Pretending and Immaterial is one of the best musical moments of the year. Truly beautiful listened front to back but the above tracks can stand on their own and show just how good a musician and producer Sophie is.

I wont lie and say that I love this, but if we're talking objectively, I can totally see why this is considered one of the greatest hyperpop albums ever. It's insanely creative and absolutely bonkers

When I first listened to Oil of Every Pearl's Un-Insides when it came out, I found myself disappointed that it didn't have more of the edge from SOPHIE's earlier work. I no longer think I was correct on that. This album is not just as bizarre and dreamlike as her previous work, it is also has much more variety. Oil of Every Pearl's Un-Insides is a fantastic album that tears modern EDM apart and puts its back together in the twisted way only SOPHIE has mastered.

I just don't get it. Most songs just repeat their title over and over again, and it's just weird for the sake of being weird. And some of the noisier parts are legitimately hard to get through. I don't know, maybe I'll try this again in a year or two and see if anything changes.

I don't think I was ready for this when it came out. Now it makes more sense to me. The hyper-pitched vocals, early 2000s dance-pop vibe, and sudden bursts of glitchy textures feel, legit. It's not that the album's messiness miraculously disappeared in my eyes, but it now makes sense.

It's Okay to Cry made me check that my speakers weren't busted. I considered it strange to be so hushed and considered turning it off. Boy, am I glad I got the payoff. From the explosive final seconds of the song straight into Ponyboy, I fell in love with the harshness and rhythmic cacophony of the album. While not every song is as memorable as the amazing start, the album is certainly worth a listen.

82/100. Probably one of the best "album experiences" of the year? while few of the tracks stand out in a huge way for me, the album as a whole has a fantastic sense of cohesion, in which SOPHIE immerses you in her world. I probably would've rated this higher, however, if it were not for the last track, which I found to be insufferable. All in all pretty great though.

After an excellent-though-lopsided compilation of singles+attachments called Product and contributing many-a bomb beat to Charli XCX, I was eager to see how Sophie would operate on a formal full-length. Turns out it's lopsided as well; but conjures up a flow that winningly correlates with the presence at hand: jerky and disorienting, warmhearted yet uncompromising, drives ya mad then eases you into cooling lapses. Its clang outweighs its cute but delivers ridiculously-n-epically for both while managing legit buildup balladry and an ambient soar that's immense if somewhat idle; jagged thwackin' is met with exactitude and pop music is perverted. Heck, squeaky clean mixed with disgusting -- hogs snorting their own slop could pass for both vox and beats at points. Fave point may be when you think you're at the fabulous catchy-carrot finish line that is "Immaterial", only to carry on for 9 more minutes of something akin to a beautiful torture dungeon that you die in.

This album got better the more I listened to it. Sophie's production is genius and infectious. Songs range from being beautiful and blissful to being animalistic and cacophonous. One of my favorite albums so far.
