4.0 excellent | Toondude | August 7th 18 | their most diverse album to date, which also makes it their best album to date
It's called an opinion sweetheart, I have mine and you have yours. Deal with it.

2.5 average | Durrzo | August 9th 18 | Eh. JT is still giving a borderline monotone performance and the guitar work is still inferior their old lineup's material. It's not bad, but they used to be a lot better, and that's a hard thing to look past.

4.0 excellent | AtomicShane | August 14th 18 | This is a great album. That being said, it's erra's worst. The production on this is horrible. The drums sound way too plastic-y with the cymbals sounding way off. The guitar tone is way too muted with the vocals being way to loud in the mix. Brian Hood should produce everything erra does, as this falls flat in terms of any actual punch. Half the album is amazing, and is the erra everyone knows and loves, especially the later half of it. The other half is very close to newer northlane which is disappointing to me. Tracks like Monolith and Hyperreality are super boring when talking about erra. Now they're great tracks, just simplified to the point of not sounding like erra. In all its a solid album, probably one of my favorites of the year, but doesn't live up to their older albums (as expected). JT is an amazing dude, but really lacks any range that would make this stand out. I feel like I'm hard on them only because impulse and argument are perfection imo, and just like with northlane, I'm not a fan of the less heavy, more atmospheric approach. Still, will be jamming this for a long time.

3.0 good | ultrainstinctgranny | August 11th 18 | better than drift, vocalists still manage to be a big detriment to the overall quality. Lacks the punches thrown by more praised releases by the band. Can't hear the bass at all. Same forced clean passages that interrupt any energy built up by the screamer. Same screams take away from energy built-up by any decent guitarmanship. Band is bleaching itsself of any color. It's their formula. Drift 2.0 with minor, albeit notable improvements in the songwriting.

3.0 good | andrewlein | August 11th 18 | I love everything about this band, but I swear sometimes it just gets to the point where I want to
turn a song off every time this guy starts to scream. He just ruins the entire vibe of each
song. And you're kinda forced to listen to this same monotonous screaming throughout the whole
album. I don't know, it just kills everything for me. Band like Erra needs a more versatile
vocalist. Jesse's "Ghost Atlas" project is my saviour here.

4.5 superb | vargaspablo82 | August 10th 18 | My favorite record ever is Drift. I find it hard for them to step up their game but the more I listen to Neon the more I see the possibility of it being better than Drift.
Has vibes from all previous records, but then we have some guitar composing we haven't heard before from these guys. Alex is exceptionally good in the drums department, as usual.
JT has a monothone voice, which is probably my least favorite part of the album and the band in general, call me obsolete but I still miss Garrison. I guess it's complicated, because their best records are without him, but he was the best of their previous records.
Jesse is Jesse. He has showed improvements in his voice and in his guitar skills in every album. He gets better and better and you can tell it's not made up in the studio, their sound live has gotten way better over the years.rI'm glad this album stands by its own. Sounds great, the mix is a little too loud (lacks bass, in my biased opinion as a bassist), I prefer the sound of Drift.
This album is another Masterpiece from this underrated band.

4.0 excellent | SpideryMan | June 10th 22 | Basically Drift 2.0 with again, more focus on poppy melodies and math rock sensibilities. The album is likely one of their most accessible points for new listeners. Very vibey.

4.5 superb | AlphaGoon | October 14th 18 | Erra find somewhat of a balance between the aesthetic and songwriting of their previous effort Drift, and the instrumental prowess of their earlier heavy records. Each song stands on its own as a top notch modern metalcore song, and at only 10 tracks that album flows smoothly and doesn't overstay its welcome. Many will say that other bands have done similar/the same thing, but I strongly disagree. Erra has taken notes from their predecessors and yet they've crafted their own sound with ambient guitar tones, grandiose soundscapes, and riffs with more passion and energy than most other metalcore bands. Rarely is a riff repeated in the exact same way, and while the song structures may be towards the simpler side when you break it down, they always makes sure to change up just enough that it doesn't become overly predictable. There is not much more one could ask for in a metalcore album aside from some more variation in the screamed vocals.

3.0 good | J3wFro69 | August 17th 18 | Step above Drift, but not by much. Side note, I saw on an Instagram post that JT defended the direction the band is taking saying something along the lines of "Erra's deathcore days are finished." What a load of garbage. Shame to see how badly his screams are with Erra, the final album with Texas in July he did showed a bit of promise but oh well. Would rather have Ian back and have at least some meat to the vocals

3.0 good | DatBeefPudding | August 16th 18 | slightly above average. mostly saved by jesse's vocal melodies and guitar riffs.rdrummer has chilled out. bassist is average. screamer has literally 1 range. ri wish jesse would quit and just focus on ghost atlas TBH

3.5 great | Voltimand | August 12th 18 | Although it doesn't reach the highs of the pre-lineup change albums, 'Neon' has plenty of
atmosphere and is a definite improvement from 'Drift'. I'm finding no skippable tracks
even after 6 full listens. However, if you didn't like Drift, this may not change your mind about the
new direction the band has been taking.
