I suppose it's fitting that one of the best active screamo bands around is named for a devastating earthquake, because that's just what Loma Prieta's music evokes, both from a sonic and an emotional standpoint. Last City, while not quite at the quality that would come to grace later releases, is a solid starting point. What you're hearing on this record is the foundation of a springboard, essentially. It's got all the base sounds for the band, with the the passionate, intense screamo blasts mixed with somber, sometimes even downright depressing emo passages. It's not anything all that new, to be sure, but it's done with a sense of professionalism and passion that's impossible to ignore, which you can very clearly hear in every instrument and every yell. Loma Prieta would truly flesh out their identity on later releases, but Last City is worth hearing solely for the fact that it is twenty-three minutes of solid, intense, and emotionally resonant screamo.

I just recently got into this band, so the first album I heard from them was their latest. This album is definitely more melodic, while I.V. is more harsh, and aggressive. This is a phenomenal album, with a fair amount of stand out tracks including the title track, armor, worn path, and David Fung. So glad I gave these guys a listen.

designed and jam packed full of passion and perfection that you have to wonder how they pulled it off
