3.0 good | Voltimand | September 7th 18 | Has more of an alternative rock vibe than prog; Eric sounds great on vocals. Previously released rsingles have been reworked, some for the better (Synthetic Hands).

3.0 good | Nine | September 7th 18 | Pretty solid record. I think Eric did a fine job with the vocals and the instrumentation is still just as good as the previous records. Highlights of this record for me were Dim, Synthetic Hands, The Reckoning, and Sunshine Dust. Menace and Temptress in the latter part of the record though kind of went in one ear and out the other. Regardless, the record is pretty good overall.

0.0 | thelamestallion | September 14th 18 | This album is packed with much more energy, consistency and ambition than Guiding Lights,
but it rarely reaches its predeccessor's esthetical heights. I don't find Emery's penchant
for a subdued, raspy vocal delivery worthwhile as his clean natural voice complements the
band's sound lot more effectively, and unfortunately he rarely unleashes it during the
album. Instead this Chesterish style quickly becomes too familiar if not predictable and
even kinda vexing at some points. And of course here and there are either vague melodies or
questionable (read - occasionally cheesy) lyrics, but both are epidemic issues in modern
rock music, especially in more progressive styles, so no surprises, neither good nor bad. On
the other hand, the band seems to feel fine as this new record features much more dynamics
and contrasts in songwriting instrumentally and especially drum-wise. Highlights to me are
"Dissent", "Dim", "Blind Side" and an eponimous closing track.

4.0 excellent | Nomos2 | September 7th 18 | Disappointing. Instrumental complexity suffers as a result of tuning itself to Eric's nu-metal vocals. Simple songs. Forgettable. Really sad to say.

2.5 average | Scheumke | September 11th 18 | Instead of Djent by numbers, they went for hardrock by numbers, with a result that's a little bit more enjoyable for me. But that's more me being fed up with the same Djent sound than it is the quality of the material here. Production is good, the songs are never bad or crinchworthy, but it has no soul or inspiration behind it whatsoever.
