4.5 superb | RedRightHand | July 21st 18 | To the dude that said this wasn't as technical as Spawn of Possession...rBAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

2.5 average | Pon EMERITUS | July 14th 18 | I really wanted to like this but, once again, Obscura muster up something that is eclipsed in multiple ways by the works of First Fragment, Archspire and Spawn of Possession. It's neither as distinguished as the former, as technical or well-composed as the latter, nor as fun as the middlemen. Diluvium is another technically-adept though lifeless album from a band that is in a constant existential crisis - a problem seemingly borne out of lineup changes made in the pursuit of virtuosity over chemistry.

2.0 poor | Robert Garland STAFF | July 14th 18 | Possibly ready to be the most underwhelming and overrated death metal release of 2018. This is such a bore fest.

4.5 superb | VanFullOfSpooks | July 13th 18 | A technical masterpiece and probably my
favorite Obscura album.
Hard to name a favorite song when they all
kick so much ass.
"Mortification of the Vulgar Sun" and "An Epilogue to Infinity" is high up there
though
Edit: After wrestling with myself on the final review I went from a 4.5 to a 4 and now back to a
4.5. After repeated listens this is without a doubt my favorite Obscura album, I do not understand
why some of people were underwhelmed or bored, the technicality is simply amazing. This is a
fantastic album and one of my favorites of 2018.

4.5 superb | HailSuffo | July 14th 18 | Definitely their heaviest! Such impressive musicianship, obscura never disappoints and this will blow you away if
you’re a fan of complex music.

2.0 poor | DoctorVelvet | August 3rd 18 | Nothing really I can say that Jacquibim didn't already
better, but I will nonetheless add to the pot. Diluvium
did not arrive as a sucker punch. It's a continuation
from the mess that began on Akroasis. Genuine
thoughtlessness begets songwriting that is indulgent
without having earned the right to be so. Despite the
phenomenal production, we have music that conveys little
of substance. It wanks and it plods and it sweeps and it
plods and it blast beats and it plods and it plods and it
plods and it plods. Obscura throws in every measure of
technicality they can muster until they go red in the
face; they keep this up for fifty minutes, and at the end
of it all you wonder if they had ever stopped to ask
themselves "should we write in one good riff?"

3.5 great | GamamJ | August 10th 20 | I think this is one of Obscura's most enjoyable records, and my favourite since Cosmogenesis. It is certainly wanky, but isn't that why we listen to Obscura?

5.0 classic | Robinanimate | January 24th 19 | I just cannot get tired of this. I don't think I ever heard a more perfect blend of high-tech brutal onslaugt and catchy melodeath song writing. This should appeal to fans of In Mourning, Death and Mors Principium Est alike.

4.0 excellent | SuzyC | August 30th 18 | Yup, I think this is their best record yet as well. Technicality is there but not the feature element. Many of the songs are even catchy!

4.0 excellent | cjbizzlebizzle | August 9th 18 | Obscura return with their, unsurprisingly at this point, spacey and complex take on slightly progressive technical death metal. The leads are numerous, the bass is given a starring role and the entire package has a slightly melodic and thrashy feel. The songwriting is a highlight on the album as Obscura stick to a more structured approach where many modern acts are all about rapid twists and turns. Obscura allow the songs to develop with verses, choruses, bridges and solo sections. This allows each track to have an identity and you don't need to study the album or listen to it one hundred times to get a great feel for it, it comes naturally and quickly. The bass and guitar work is also once again stellar with both instruments providing so much content to digest. The vocals have not changed much but Stefan has always done well between his trashy gutturals and the effects laiden space vox. All in all one of the recent highlights of technical death metal and to no one's surprise.

3.5 great | Paul Quinones | July 24th 18 | This is about what I expected. Considering that these guys have boundless talent, I gotta say I was hoping for more. But if your band is 3.5 on par, I think it's fair to say you get a pass. I won't be complaining any.

3.0 good | Jotun35 | July 14th 18 | Better than Akroasis but a bit too dumbed
down. The new tracks lack the flourish and
audacity of the first 2 records and is way too
tame in comparison. A tech death album a bit
too "by the book" for its own good.

3.5 great | Reini Eden | May 15th 18 | I really enjoy this, not a big fan of metal with a lot of growls but these are acceptable and tolerable. I obviously enjoy the bass (which someone said it's not a fretless and i'm like how) it's an overall pretty good solid song.
