Yes, it's really that good. I haven't really listened to much of this band but this album is just beautiful.

Probably her best and most cohesive effort yet. The usual Florence with her over-the-top antics is suspiciously gone and replaced with someone far more experienced and, in a way, tired. It's still an album filled with her trademark soaring vocals and epic song climaxes but unlike her previous releases, she gives herself some room to breathe and in doing so produces some of the most emotional moments of her career (see: Grace and The End of Love). Overall, High as Hope is a delightful, tightly-packed experience which proves that Florence isn't a one-trick pony. Definitely excited for her future records!

I wish the musical diversity and vastly improved lyrics didn't come at the expense of the manic
Florence energy, but there's a good bit to chew on here. Oh, and The End of Love belongs on
everyone's SOTY list.

What I love about Florence on this album is that she gradually becomes more confident and
honest as a singer-songwriter, she becomes an art persona with her own philosophy I'd say.
She becomes a poetess and she is very organic in this incarnation.
The album though doesn't reach the HBHBHB's energy and grandeur as well as lyrically it
never reaches its predeccessor's empathic catchiness (though it moves towards some pretty
clever and adroit aphoristicity), but it doesn't need any of these things as it's an album
of its own specific purpose: a respite, a quiet and sincere reflection on life itself and
other people; here Florence is less locked in herself, and it's a very important position
for a poet.
I'm tremendously curious to see what she will come up with next.
