This is even more the culmination of Anathema's sound, perhaps even softer than they went on the previous records... mostly because this is an unplugged acoustic record, and the songs sound like they were always meant to sound. The production is intimate, the "mournful cello" does a great job of conveying atmosphere, and it really sounds like 10 new tracks even though 9 of them appear on previous discs. It's a remarkable achievement that a compilation album might actually be the best record in the band's catalog, and in many cases it would be miserable; but this record just transforms a batch of already amazing songs and gives them a completely fresh and new face. Highly recommended for any fan.

A very self-aware and re-imaginative experiment. They didn't unplug their respective instruments and just went through some of the old songs to see what would happen; but added a variation of soul and character by re-arranging songs to fit the new, subtle approach.

This was the first album I heard from this band and I must say I was completely blown away by sheer emotion and quality musicianship showcased. After this album I tracked down some of their previous albums and can safely say that these "acoustic" reworkings of some their best songs beats most of the original versions. It may be a tad depressing for happy people but gloomy souls such as myself will find this album a suprisingly moving, laidback and emotional experience.

This isn't too shabby, Anathema added some nice touches to some tracks, others seem too sparse. The major flaw on this record is that a lot of the material seems to lose its original feel; a big downside if you're looking for a rehashed version of your favourite song. All in all if you're a fan of this band you'll probably enjoy the offering, though I'd definitely start somewhere else if you're curious in hearing what these guys are all about.
