the coworker sitting next to me has like three empty 24oz bottles of monster on his desk, along rwith two rockstars of the same size, a tiny little vape that he will use surreptitiously rthroughout the day, and a pop-tarts wrapper. he's a father but i'm pretty sure he's addicted to rseveral schedule 1 and 2 narcotics, and he talks way too loudly on the phone when the microphone ris sitting right next to his mouth. there are fat white women wearing fishnets and shaving one rside of their head. in a few years every white woman will be fat, and the ones under 200 pounds rwill be regarded as the finest, rarest of beauties. the upper echelons of white males will breed rinstead with thick latinx teenagers, brought to puberty around age 11 due to whatever the fuck rthey put in the water nowadays. this will bring about the alpha castizo master race to subjugate rall the useless customer service representatives like me sitting in a cubicle under florescent rlights staring at a screen for 8 hours a day. actually it's tech support not customer service, rthank you very much. i love my fat girlfriend. i love deafheaven.rcalifornia used to be a beautiful place. but sometimes i wonder if manifest destiny was a mistake.

Pls do not compare this to the masterpiece that is Sunbather, it might be the biggest insult ever in the history of insults. Seriously though this is the biggest disappointment in recent memory for me. Canary Yellow and Worthless Animal are prob the only tracks I can see myself coming back to. :[

More sophisticated than New Bermuda, Deafheaven's latest veers closer to Sunbather while continuing to introduce new ideas into their dense blend of black metal, dream pop/shoegaze, and post-rock. The opener, "Near", and "Worthless Animal" are highlights.

as is typical with these kinds of bands they get less and less heavy putting out random 'atmospheric' shit and everyone goes whoa thats deep bro. the ironic thing about post metal is its actually a regression to premetal days, this album belongs more in the 60s than anything afterwards. actual bm parts are generic save a good rendition in the first half of honeycomb

If we can't come up with new songwriting ideas, we'll FORCE new ideas to happen. They doubled back on their darker sound to embrace a much more uplifting sound... It's so saccharine, it hurts. A lot of this album feels terribly sloppy, too. The drumming feels disconnected from the rest of the band at points, and the longer songs feel like various song ideas stapled together. Less predictable, sure, but all these changes are not for the better.

Hate to keep harking back to Sunbather since their trajectory since has grown stylistically and certainly ain't without its merit -- it's just that none of it has been blistering or persuasive or beautiful as that pink-painted classic could be. This beats New Bermuda on flow and tenacity but ups the drippy and long-winded; which at times can transmit strikingly. Too often tho there's a whiff of cheese and a willingness to make intensity sound languid. Flashy yet kinda flat, punchy but predictable and exceedingly polished. Plus some solos still make me groan.

A step up from New Bermuda as Deafheaven have seemed to really solidify their signature sound. The blackgaze, post-metal and post-rock are all as apparent as ever here and this might be the groups tightest sounding recording yet. Deafheaven seamlessly weave their way through intense blast-beat ridden blackened sections, ethereal cleans, post rockin' guitar riffs and even more guitar solos without compromising their approach in the slightest. At first glance this one had the potential to match their masterful Sunbather but more detailed inspection shows that it just lacks the unreal emotion the group was able to capture on the aforementioned. Canary Yellow and Honeycomb are truly great and the ender is also up there but the rest of the album feels less memorable. Either way, Deafheaven do a great job with the pace and flow on this one with clean tracks breaking up the longer more intense ones.

It is a great album. The progression and the level of intensity are overwhelming and soooo dramatic. All those obvious hints of shoegazing (Hello Slowdive!!!) make the experience an adventure into the darkness of their souls. There are a couple of masterpieces on OCHL: Canary Yellow, You Without End, Worthless Animal, to name a few. I believe that the best way to appreciate Deaf Heaven is to listen to their complete discography, pushing the random play button on your device. Those seven new cuts fit marvelously into the playlist.

This one didn't really hit the mark for me.
Deafheaven have gone even softer than anything of
their previous releases. The last 2 albums had kind
of an emotional resonance that is lacking here,
something that I don't really know how to quantify.
I'll give it a bit of a chance to grow on me, but
this seems like the worst Deafheaven have been since
their debut.
Edit: I kind of missed the mark on this one. While
possibly more subdued than their previous releases,
there certainly still is emotional resonance on
Ordinary Corrupt Human Love. It may still be the
weakest album they've had since Roads to Judah, but
that's not saying a ton given I view Sunbather and
New Bermuda as absolute masterpieces.

A slower, more plodding and post rock centric Deafheaven. The album plays out like blackgaze by way of This Will Destroy You, and occasionally exuberantly bursts into some upbeat soloing that sounds ripped from an anime soundtrack or even a power metal album. How cool that is is largely up to the listener, but I find this new direction a welcome change of pace after the largely by the numbers slog that was New Bermuda.
