2.0 poor | butcherboy | May 8th 18 | tiresomely long and samey.. so i imagine it will be wildly popular on the site.. somewhere, prince is spinning in his grave..
also, can we stop calling anything slightly chintzy done by lanky white people as Bowie-esque? this sounds more like that Duffy woman who did limey soul a few years ago than anything Bowie ever put his name to..

4.5 superb | desertdino | May 8th 18 | Continues the Monkeys pattern of making huge leaps between albums. The difference between this album and AM is definitely greater than any of the other leaps before. The only comparable change was FWN --> Humbug but that is not to this extent. The albums songs blend together in a way but it only helps to form the mood of the record. This one seems to be a major grower, perhaps more than even humbug or SIAS. I am about 8 listens in and I continue to find more and more to savor. It may lack guitars but it does not lack much else!

4.5 superb | joshuainsole93 | May 10th 18 | Needs a few listens to be properly absorbed. Kind of genius. Hints of Bowie. Lounge jazz album set in space. Even if it's not your cup of tea, these sorts of bold creative forays into the unknown should be celebrated. Bloody brave album from Turner and the Monkeys.

4.0 excellent | JimiLuxembourg | May 11th 18 | This album is not disappointing at all, I am listening it for 5th or 6th time now and it is a grower for me. Nice to see them going their own way rIts atmosphere reminds me a bit to Damon Albarn's Everyday Robots. Somehow slow and silent but full of energy yet.

1.5 very poor | Groundking | May 11th 18 | What a massive let down, 4 years for this? Wtf, it seems the band is at a complete loss on what to do with themselves and have lost their identity.

3.4 great | Benjamin Kuettel EMERITUS | May 10th 18 | Strikes an interesting balance of being weirder and more relaxed than AM, but also less diverse. The change in direction is nice enough, but a whole album of these spacey, lounge music piano standards gets a bit homogeneous toward the end. Still, it has a very nice atmosphere and entertaining lyrics.

4.5 superb | Comatorium. | May 7th 18 | Holy fuck, it?s like AM took the sexy, slow moments from their past catalogue and expanded them into an entire album complete with absolutely unique synthesizer and pipe organ integration. The album needs time to sink in, but this is everything I ever wanted from this band since hearing ?She?s Thunderstorms?, ?No. 1 Party Anthem,? and ?Mad Sounds.?

4.0 excellent | Chambered79 | July 25th 18 | Pretentious, half asleep, nearly lifeless,
self-aware, introspective, postmodern, lost,
borders on "it sucks cuz that's the point
maaannnn", forward thinking, soulful, and
contradictory. It's the story of a nostalgic
lounge singer stuck in a spiritual conundrum
on the moon. None of that really matters
though; this is the first time I've been
bothered to care about an Arctic Monkeys album
which is ironic considering Tranquility Base
Hotel and Casino, more than ever, sounds like
they don't give a flying fuck what anyone
thinks. Easily the most interestingly flawed
and important album of 2018.

4.5 superb | disposablebodies | May 12th 18 | This album is the sensory equivalent to a walk through a washed-out utopian dreamscape. It's a big roll filled with atmosphere, glamour, charm, and the perfect hint of humor. The lack of guitars absolutely doesn't hinder the sound whatsoever. rTBHC is the Monkeys' most bizarre change in direction, and definitely the greatest.

4.0 excellent | Ganoncannon | May 9th 19 | Not only is it refreshing for a band as big as Arctic Monkeys to make such a radical creative departure, it's so satisfying for it to also pay off. The band easily could have tried to make AM part 2, but instead, they took their sound in a radically different direction that I'm sure will be looked back on more fondly than it is now.

1.5 very poor | Naseki | December 15th 18 | I feel like I'm listening to 1 song repeated for eternity. I'm not even kidding. I was surprised when I was already over half the album. I had only listened to a few songs by this band, and considered them decent. I had a pretty neutral opinion towards them although I had a feeling they were pretentious. Welp...

4.0 excellent | MrHarrison | August 23rd 18 | By far their most interesting record. Probably their best. "I just wanted to be one of The Strokes" is the funniest opening line of any album this decade.

3.5 great | Antonius | June 2nd 18 | Tranquility Base... caught me by the same surprise as everyone. Having listened to AM with such an enthusiasm, I was expecting no deviation from the formula of success. However, the Monkeys' latest release its a complete turnaround in style and ideas. I respect the change of direction and the effort to chase success and further recognition through a different path, however, whether this was done because of Turner's ego or lack of inspiration deserves an article of its own. Tranquility Base... lacks crunchy riffs, fast tempos, and energetic grooves; it is exactly the opposite of what you have heard in AM. Lyrics are more mature and in the majority of the songs, Turner's vocals are magnificent. Guitars are expelled for the sake of piano/synth, while the bass is simply brilliant in setting the groove. Recommendations: "Four out of Five", "Batphone", "One Point Perspective", "Star Treatment", "Tranquility Base Hotel & Casino"

4.0 excellent | lz41 | May 23rd 18 | So I've actually decided I like this one. It's an album long wink with all its pompous, whooshing space-age chic - only a couple of tracks stand out, but it is very cohesive. Alex Turner is one of the few writers clever enough to get away with playing word-salad for an entire album and his dirty-money act reincarnates Vegas-era Elvis. If anyone was wondering how the Arctic Monkeys would handle drifting into the 30-something middle-age-dom of rock, "Tranquility Base Hotel and Casino" declares that they're determined to ride the wave, not dive under it.

4.0 excellent | Risodo | May 20th 18 | The big problem of being a very famous band with an absurdly huge fan base is that each album will share opinions, especially if they change the band's sound or are the fruits of a visionary work. And that's what happens with Arctir Mokeys last release. Fans already feel hurt because they have nothing like "AM" on here, but the reality is that "Tranquility Base Hotel and Casino" is a very mature work for this type of audience. I'm happy to see bands with such attention and recognition of the media launching something that was not even up on their imagination.

3.5 great | commonist | May 13th 18 | 69/100. First impression, solid but nothing amazing. While I can appreciate the direction the monkeys went on this project, it does feel like a self-indulgent Alex Turner solo album. Unfortunately, his lyrics are becoming cringier than Hell and lack the profundity that a stripped back album like this desperately needs. Again, a decent output by the group--- but probably their worst album to date.
