4.0 excellent | cjbizzlebizzle | December 20th 18 | When it comes to indie rock-pop that is centered around a singer/songwriter the vocals can often make or break the experience and first impressions have heightened importance. Not only is Snail Mail's Lindsey Jordan up to the task, she absolutely owns it on 'Lush' with a quiet confidence that captivates during the entire runtime. Jordan is not virtuosic and thank god. Her very melodic and emotive approach really forces the listener to feel what she is feeling and this is where many of the most technically gifted musicians often fail. Lindsey's approach demands your attention and it is impossible to look away. Lush seems to get a some flack for being just another indie album and while it certainly isn't re-inventing the genre the music accompanying Jordan is both interesting and dynamic enough to warrant it's own attention. There are well produced guitar tones and fun chord progressions underneath the excellent vocal efforts. An album that may take a few spins to get into but extremely rewarding with more replays. Pristine, Heat Wave, STICK, Golden Dream and Deep Sea are all top notch tracks.

3.5 great | TheManMachine | October 27th 18 | From a foolhardy afar I suspected Lindsey Jordan would be just another strummer in the considerable herd of overhyped 90s hark-back singer-songwriters. And in some ways she sorta just is. But the tactfulness of her songwriting+tonage sneaks up on you, the emotion elicited ineluctable and free of bombast. And despite drowning a bit in convention and the nondescript emotional-struggle doldrums, she's wise well beyond her sub-twenty years: tunes steadily stripped back and clear-cut, bonafide and bored without being boring, despondent with drive. This is homespun purity harnessed and honed, an overhaul that doesn't overdo it -- plenty of time left for that methinks.

2.8 good | Erwann S. STAFF | August 3rd 21 | Bored gal uses pedal so that her guitar strummings are labelled as "lush". It does work, at times, like on "Pristine" or "Heat Wave", but most of the time it's pleasant at best; while Jordan's emotive vocal approach is interesting per se, there simply isn't enough variation for the record to be enjoyable on the "long" run. Same goes for the music: it's all the same timbre. It's pretty though.

3.5 great | SalteyBacon | December 21st 18 | For a Debut Indie record this was an enjoyable listen. I will say I'm moreso excited to hear what her career has in store as half of this album showed what type of singer she can be while the other makes me feel of the sterotypical crap indie playlist coffee shops pay for, and that won't make her win my heart as a songwriter in the future.

3.0 good | gofrosty | December 18th 18 | A few fantastic tracks, but comes across very same-y when listening to the whole album. There is just so little diversity in timbre compared to what you find in a lot of similar records. Favorite tracks: Pristine, Heat Wave.
