4.5 superb | notkanyewest | May 12th 18 | It's really interesting to me that some people here find this to be a "boring" beach house album,
because I'm quite the opposite- I think "teen dream" is really great and the rest of the records are
good to okay with a few songs I really like. But "7", for me, is engaging and immediate in a very new
and exciting way. There's a depth and dynamism in the production that wasn't on the last three
albums, but there's still that entrancing quality that makes the best beach house stuff tick.

5.0 classic | BrushedRed | May 2nd 18 | This is the finest they?ve sounded since Bloom. Each song is drenched in a dense, dimly-lit atmosphere that still finds a way to build and for each track to well, bloom, for a lack of better word. If you think that Beach House has tended to play it safe over the years and want something different, this is definitely it. They?ve done something different, yet still manage to be distinctly Beach House. There isn?t a weak song here and each are song of the year worthy in their own way. The last three tracks here may be their best stretch of tracks in their whole discography, especially the gorgeous ?Woo,? which may very well be the best song they?ve put together. I expected something special here as Beach House is one of my favorite bands, but this blew away any expectations I had. I think I?ve found my album of the year.

3.5 great | olisz | April 6th 23 | Not their most consistent album for me, as I definitely prefer their lush dream pop over shoegaze. Still there is plenty for me here, especially in the second half of the tracklist.

4.5 superb | Gene Gol CONTRIBUTOR | September 23rd 21 | I struggle to really definitively answer the question of what the best Beach House album is, especially because I do not entirely believe in the idea of "best" (despite wielding that term willy nilly). Here's the thing, out of the whole Beach House discography, this is probably their most sonically accomplished work, consistently written, most crisp in production, and it is the most I've even felt like floating in space (probably...definitely high out of my mind).

4.0 excellent | Bedex | September 29th 20 | To be fair to the band, this was quite an unfocused listen on my end, and frankly my rating is mostly based off the vague impression that this is stronger than Bloom. But by track 5 I really wasn't paying attention much and that wasn't the band's fault. Well, mostly not. To be fair to me though, I have come to terms with the fact that BH is just not going to be a fave band of mine. While 1-3 are all kinda cool, and certainly make the band's dreamy haze finally pay off with compositions that are inspired and flavourful especially in the synth section, by 4 they already fall back into their old traps - although it's not quite as bad as previously. 7 is nice and psychedelic. Beyond that don't ask me (shame). 3.85

3.7 great | Erwann S. STAFF | October 24th 19 | Of course it's still an excellent dreamy album, but I slightly prefer Bloom over this. I'm kinda sad they won't make my top 100. At least they got Space Song to be represented in the tracks' top 100.

3.5 great | cjbizzlebizzle | June 29th 18 | Psych, gazy, shoey, dreamy pop that is easy to get lost in. Props for all of the song variation, the lush production and the lethargic, melancholy atmospheres. It feels like each track is it's own and Beach House manage to cover a lot of ground in the 47 minutes given on 7. After revisiting Souvlaki and Slowdive S/T it is hard to not see the extreme influence and borderline emulation at times but Beach House do just enough to distinguish themselves from all of that. The vocalists have a natural and smooth complimentary sound and Victoria does a good job taking on several different approaches and even languages here, a nice touch. Pay No Mind and Drunk in LA stand out as the highlights that one could replay over and over and the rest of the tracks serve as a nice exploration of dreamy, dense sounds.

3.2 good | Trey STAFF | June 6th 18 | Very chill and dreamy indie pop. Does that make it dream pop or shoeqaze. To me, it really doesn't. There's too many electronic and poppy elements, and it's not nearly abstract enough for dream pop in my opinion. Whatever it is, though, it is really enjoyable. Waaves of synth, chill beats, and sleepy vocals.

4.0 excellent | proscett | May 26th 18 | I find 7 to be the most immediately appealing BH album for me. It took a couple spins until I clicked with some songs, but for the most part this has been on repeat ever since it dropped. My favorite songs are L'Innocue, Drunk in LA, Black Car, and Woo, but I honestly can't find a weak song on the album.

4.0 excellent | Risodo | May 20th 18 | 2018 is not being such a good and productive year for the music world, even more so compared to the last two years. In this sense, it's great to see bands with little expectation about their work, releasing albums that really rank among the best of the year. Beach House is this type of band, even more working with an astral genre and with strong imaginary power. With this conclusion, "7" is such an interesting work, which may be one of the best of the year, as well as one of the most relevant work in the history of Dream Pop.

4.0 excellent | commonist | May 12th 18 | 80/100. A very nice return to form for Delaware-based duo Beach House. I love the darker aesthetic they took on this album, as well as the more aggressive drums (such as on the track Dive). While I don't see this as a huge new direction like some people seem to think, I really enjoyed the album and think I'll only grow to like it even more over time.

5.0 classic | TheForbiddenFool | May 11th 18 | Beach House somehow came up with a proper, if not more expansive and diverse album since the landmark "Bloom". I honestly adore this album, it's easily going to be in my Top 10 this year and I can't wait to see them perform some of this album live in Chicago in August. I adore this band and have been in love with them for years, but to be honest the turning point was seeing them at Pitchfork Music fest back in 2016...it was honestly one of the best live experiences I've ever had.rThis album is gorgeous, textured, beautiful and compelling. It's an absolute must listen for anyone that appreciates beauty and art.

4.5 superb | ciregno | May 2nd 18 | Damn this album is probably their best. Great textures and a solid variety of sound scapes yet it still feels like Beach House.
