3.5 great | pizzamachine | March 31st 18 | Imagine your mom in a blender. Now imagine that that blender is by no means musical in any way. Now imagine
that I have not listened to this album yet and that this soundoff has entirely wasted your time.

3.4 great | Trey STAFF | March 30th 18 | Defintiely a more melodic, diverse, and accessible version of the band I knew. Granted, I only really bothered with their last two albums, but this sounds nothing like them. The music is really good, mixing melody, electronics, and post hardcore, but the clean vocals don't always do it for me. Still, a pretty great return even if it's not nearly as intense as their previous two releases.

4.0 excellent | HeavenlyGirl | December 29th 21 | Starts like a comeback to the They Are Only Chasing Safety days, eventually becomes it's own thing which, in my opinion, has been the band's true schtick: No album ends up being the same in the end. All in, this was very good.

2.0 poor | YourStarryEyes | April 8th 18 | Wow. We've been waiting 8 years for this? Don't get me wrong I am stoked to see Underath
back, but I must say this album was very, very hard to listen to. After their last 3 killer albums,
you'd think they'd have something crazy in store for the next release, but instead everyone was
granted with 40 minutes of boring, bland, and generic songs. I don't know how they went from
Define The Great Line and Lost In The Sound of Separation to this. If they wanted to make
something more simple, that's fine because they proved that approach could work with They're
Only Chasing Safety. But instead, it appears they wrote these songs simply for radio airplay. It's
sad to see one of your favorite bands come to this.

2.5 average | Jared Floryan | April 7th 18 | Seen as one of the faces of melodic metalcore, the Tampa-based act Underoath have done very well up until this point carving an identity to call their own. This is coming from somebody who was introduced to the band through "Writing on the Walls" and gave their back catalog a kinda sorta cursory listen. Erase Me symbolizes two firsts for the group: it's the outfit's first record in a decade to include drummer and clean singer Aaron Gillespie; and tellingly, it's also the first ever Underoath release that drifts away from the Christian themes present on nearly every past offering - except Disambiguation to a small degree. Musically speaking, Oath's eighth album pretty much downplays the post-hard/metalcore influence and shines its light more so on an unambiguously radio rock sound... with layers of electronics and industrial-isms. In theory Erase Me could've worked out nicely in the end, though overall, I'm rather disappointed with most of what's being displayed. "Sunburnt" and "Unsound" felt like natural progressions compared to this unimpressive buttfest of an effort. Spencer's great on the mic and sometimes the musicianship proves solid, but the lyricism makes for a shallow (plus forced) read, production is way too polished, and the songcraft's rarely exciting. The album wouldn't have been so hard to sit through had it just been a 4-5-track EP. Not a strong comeback, to say the least. Angel recommends: "On My Teeth," "Hold Your Breath," "No Frame," "In Motion," and Mr. Watch Yo Profanity.

1.5 very poor | Do I have somfing n my face? | March 5th 23 | well they werent wrong, dumping christ def improved their creativity - from mccore to generic pop rocks
Bump |
2.0 poor | Assemblage | May 24th 21 | Reinventing their exit? Of course this was a
disappointment, but it *has* grown ever so
slightly since it's release. It's just so hard
to find the creativity here when before the
practice was simply a non-issue. This
literally makes each of their previous albums
an entire point stronger by default. It seems
like there is a new album in the works which
upon impression based on talks so far, feels
sonically like what would have been expected
here. Thing is, if the next one is good, it'll
also make this one weaker, so this 11 song
collection of Underoath is *the* red-headed
stepchild of them all. Truly hesitant to
decide on a 2 or 2.5 here, a 3 would be max
imo, and a 3.5 (or more) would be coming too
close to the band doing no wrong. All in all,
the band's image is way too off for this to
not appear as a tripped-up step. Infamous
throughout their catalogue for over-
analyzation (which certainly brought about
it's high marks), the next biggest change
appears to be how any analyzing to be found
here has produced something vacuous enough to
feel as though none was there in the first
place.

2.5 average | davezillaMP3 | August 29th 20 | I am not against a band changing their sound, but..aside from the two singles here the rest of this album is somehow "meh" personified, even Chris Dudley has so few highlights here. "Erase Me" is somehow tame but at the same time trying to force going darker in their most Edgy album (no not referring to cussing). while none of the songs are bad, none aside from the singles and "I gave out" really stand out. I know some will say that I don't like it because it's not like the Underoath I knew, but counterpoint: if the name Underoath was not attached to it, not as many folks would have cared for it and it would, quite frankly, have a lower average score. this is yet another example of a weak sauce comeback album where Underoath return with no more then a wimpier

2.0 poor | c0nf1n3d | March 12th 20 | The hype of "Erase Me", at least for this Underoath fan, was nearly through the roof. With the return of the lineup from 'They're Only Chasing Safety' and 'Define the Great Line', there was little doubt that with time would come musical maturity and progress. "Erase Me" truthfully does present a more refined Underoath, but perhaps not in the best possible ways. It feels selfish to ask for a record that evokes the catchiness of this lineup's past efforts; alas, "Erase Me" fails on that end. There's some impressive musicianship in the mix, as well as interesting sound choices and ideas. This all doesn't lead to much though, as this record feels very much like a deflated effort. The first three tracks will mislead the listener, as they're arguably the best tracks on the record (especially "On My Teeth"). Everything else is kind of 'there'.

2.5 average | StonedManatee | January 25th 19 | Imagine shedding what made you stood out from the rest of the crowd and being a derivative of BMTH. That is Underoath's Erase Me. It erases a nearly perfect four album run with a pathetic attempt at trying to be relevant in rock radio...

3.0 good | Risodo | June 5th 18 | "Erase Me" was a surprise when it was announced, but many already knew that the result might not be so good after a few sabbatical years. The first half is very tiring, not engaging or even holding to listen anymore. But what really saves is the second half, which presents a nostalgic version of a band that seeks innovation in a new field that does not yet have the knowledge to act. It is worth checking for the affection with the band, but it is very disposable.

2.0 poor | MasBarHigeuoris21 | May 13th 18 | If bland and boring is what Underoath was aiming for, they have met their goal with Erase Me. Gone is the heaviness that made Underoath, Underoath, being replaced with a more melodic, alternative rock sound. I don't mind the change in musical direction, it just doesn't sound very good. Hopefully they go back to their roots on the next album or at least execute the transition to melodic music better.

2.0 poor | Jared Wegenast | April 22nd 18 | I've changed my mind so many times over the past year. It's not what I wanted in the progression of UO (but I've got bands who do that for me now), but I can't deny there are some big songs on this and the production is pretty excellent. Just a song here or there that could be a bit more exciting. Still better than TOCS, imo.

3.5 great | coma2rium | April 9th 18 | Can't hate the album for what it's not. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't disappointed the album didn't continue down the DTGL/LITSOS/Disambiguation path, but given Spencer's activity in Sleepwave during their time off, it really isn't too surprising when you think about it. That and this album is pretty obviously not a cash grab, anyone who thinks otherwise clearly hasn't seen the turnout for them touring on 12 year old albums for the last two years. rThat all being said, as far as this vein of "metalcore goes radio rock" a la Bring Me The Horizon, Of Mice & Men, etc, Erase Me blows these previous bands' efforts out of the water. As much as I loathed Rapture and Wake Me upon first listen, I woke up in the coming days with the choruses gnawing at the back of my mind and over time the album has grown into a master-class in how to soften rough edges, throw in a massive chorus, and push more accessible themes to the forefront while still retaining interesting song structure and lyrical integrity. rSure, I wish Spencer would've let loose with some lows here and there, and leaving Loneliness off the tracklisting of the actual album is a travesty, but all in all I'm happy to have a new underOATH album in 2018, and I have no doubt they will still put on one of the most intense live shows I'll see this year. r

3.0 good | Paul Quinones | April 6th 18 | I'm vibing. It seems to keep the unmistakable Underoath vibe. While the formula has changed, the dynamic remains the same. It's ferocious in a different way, but still hits hard. Lots of bands seem to fail in transition to a more accessible sound, but in my opinion Underoath has succeeded. Color me impressed.

1.5 very poor | mementomxri | April 6th 18 | i don?t think i have ever heard a band betray their originial sound like this. it?s different to make a more mature album but this monstrosity literally backtracked everything they had going. majority of these songs sound like they belong on Sirius XM Octane and your local butt-rock station that plays Greta Van Fleet and AC/DC religiously. Even the songs that seem like they?re gonna go somewhere fall totally flat with the most predictable song structure ever put in a ?metalcore? album. Maybe soon they?ll write actual underoath songs, and not recycle shitty Sleepwave demos for 40 minutes.
