| 0.0 | AbyssalCreation | December 27th 08 | Musically, I loved this album, it was definitely on par some of the better Melodic Hardcore cds of this year.Their vocalist however, is a different story.I didn't mind him on Sending You Strength, in fact I quite enjoyed his raspy tone. This album however, is a completely different story i have no idea what happened to make him sound so terrible.Screaming wrong, went into the studio with a cold perhaps? who knows? What i do know is his performance on this cd is simply atrocious, and really made it damn near unlistenable.
This album does have a few tracks that are worth sitting through the vocals for though.1st off the instrumental Steadily which just so happens to be my favorite song on the album.A few other tracks that are bearable, is the epic What We Seek, We Dwell In Possibility, and the closer Of Dread and Dreams.
It's really sad they broke up, if they would have let Dylan go, they could have had a great future in Melodic Hardcore.

| 4.0 excellent | YouAreMySilence | December 27th 08 | What of the best melodic Hardcore records I have heard for along; a raw, passionate, catchy, baby kicking good time. For myself Means have always stood out (just listen to their old school song You Will Become) but now that the screamer has "changed" his vocals, whether you believe its for the best or not, it has made To Keep Me From Sinking stand out even more. A friend of mine who played with Means said he acually damaged his vocals from screaming the wrong way (oww), but what even the reason the contrast of Dylan's harsh vocals and Matt's passionate singing makes for an original and fist pumping listen.
As for the music it's self, each musician stands on there own, even the bassist and especially the drummer who draws comparisons from Misery Signal's drummer; Branden Morgan. Another positive factor is that they do not need breakdowns to be great but the few they do have just adds to tracks. Repetitiveness may be one of the faults on TKMFS, but with Steadily (a ballad featuring only Matt on a guitar) alot of repetitiveness of the anthemlike hardcore songs which this mainly consists.
This album is a massive step moving Means from the post hardcore/ metalcore band to a more agressive hardcore.
