Do you like on-the-nose lyrics that are topical without saying anything? Do you like people
telling you that every cloud has a silver lining? Do you like the music you hear in the background
on Toyota commercials? Well boy howdy are you gonna like this! There are a few genuinely
enjoyable songs (Blackout and Common Ground, which are strangely the least 'typical Frank' songs
here), but it's musically trite and lyrically almost entirely devoid of substance. Sincerity
doesn't mean much when you have nothing to say.

Frank Turner treads some new ground and kinda nails it- the album is enough of a branching out sonically without being
alienating, it?s really admirable how much he expanded his sound and how natural and effortless it came out.
Significantly more dynamic and lush than his previous output, there is some tangible Eels influence here, and the album
is all the more better for it, utilizing strings and brass for the emotional peaks and valleys and subtle electronic
flourishes everywhere between. Let?s just rejoice that Make America Great Again was a one-off fluke and that Be More
Kind sits comfortably as a more than solid addition to Frank?s endlessly solid discography.

Edit- Coming back to this in 2024 it’s sad how much this was really the beginning of the end for Frank

It's not Frank's best, but also not nearly as bad as it's being made out to be. With the politically-charged themes this could have been a heavy-handed mess, but it's perhaps Turner's most laid back and carefree album to date. Of course, this will translate as boring to some, but it's a nice change of pace for a man who typically churns out rowdy punk tunes. Fear not, his knack for stringing together clever verses like falling dominos is as evident as ever on "Little Changes", and some horns are even thrown in for good measure. It's not the loud Turner many of us have grown accustomed to, but as opener "Don't Worry" makes apparent, it doesn't have to be.

I was disappointed with this release. The attempt to incorporate new instrumentation didn't seem
like an evolution of Frank's sound so much as a hodgepodge of styles lifted from bands he wanted
to emulate. And the political takes were pretty toothless (aside from maybe 1933). Bland overall.

Remember folk punk Frank Turner? Yeah this album certain doesn't. The best songs on this can't lick the boots of Poetry of the Deed, let alone England Takes My Bones or Love, Ire and Song and is composed of bland political and socioeconomic observations with the lyrical depth of a high school drop out band.
