Experimenting with grittier soundscapes without compromising catchiness. Significantly
gloomier and more personal at times than their previous efforts. Some of my favorite tracks
are "Country Sad Ballad Man", "On your Own", "You're so Great" and, of course, the ever
popular mosh-inducing "Song 2"

Blur self titled album has been very successful album in the world's view and my view. The album is very fun and it experiments with lots of sounds like rock, punk and even to a point sounding like sonic youth. It also has one of the most memorable songs from the 90's like "Song 2". Probably one of my favorite Blur Albums.

Wooohoooo!!! To the general public and musically challenged, Blur is strictly known for that “WooHoo” song played at sporting events. That song, “Song 2”, aside from being their most known song, ironically pokes fun at the grunge era with random lyrics and really no meaning whatsoever. If one takes the time to really get into Damon Albarn and Blur, they are sure to be impressed. Damon is a musical genius, and yes, he is that British mastermind guy in the Gorillaz. “Beetlebum” is an excellent start to this self titled 1997 success. “You’re So Great” is possibly the number one song to listen to when hung-over, as depressing as that may sound. Unfortunately for Blur, this album was their own personal death of a party, however to me, it remains their best (No, not Parklife, bite me).

This album is unique, in terms of music quality. "Song 2", "country sad ballad man" etc. are excellent tracks, although other songs are in the bunch "worst i've ever heard"

Pavement are a vaunted influence on this, but you can hear all sorts of stuff going on in a more subtle way - Sonic Youth, Minutemen, The Replacements, even Black Flag on one track. Blur's American album indeed - this is very American by their standards. Odd, then, that the album's best tracks are the ones that sound most English - "Beetlebum" is in the vein of latter-day Beatles, while "Strange News From Another Star" takes a page from David Bowie's book. "Song 2", while undeniably a shamelessly stadium-sized rock beast most English bands at the time would have been too proud to write, also sounds like little else on here. What remains is occasionally enjoyable, but you get the general impression that the band were fumbling a little, feeling somehow uncomfortable with their new style. On a few tracks, it feels like members of the band are refusing to conform to the new agenda, particularly Alex James. Whatever was going on in the band at the time, we're left with a record that offers mighty peaks, but leaves you feeling a little underwhelmed all the same.
