Has there ever been a more beautiful mix of pop sensibility and intricate, driving, and soulful music in recent memory? Probably not. Dredg's third release, Catch Without Arms, finds another new sound for the band, a long way from the edgy and raw Leitmotif. Catch Without Arms became dredg's album that allowed the band to quietly sneak in the doors of the mainstream, but they still maintained a musical integrity that few current bands can contend with. The album has a typical sound, but that sound never gets old. With the immense sound that guitarist Mark Engles conjures, relying on chorus and delay effects and the unpredictable but always fitting basslines of Drew Roulette, the music hardly needs anything else. But Dino Campanella adds some of the most solid drumming around and Gavin Hayes soars overtop with amazing melodies. Catch Without Arms is a fantastic listen for anybody. Anybody.

I am a huge fan of Dredg's previous album, El Cielo, so this one took a little while to grow on me. It is not so much of a complete work as El Cielo, less ambitious in its scope and probably more accessible. That said, grow on me it did thanks largely to songs like Planting Seeds and Ode to the Sun. After countless listens, I still find parts of the songs that I missed the last time through. For being a much more poppy album than El Cielo, Dredg still manages to easily engage my attention with their composition skills.

A disappointment compared to El Cielo, a masterpiece compared to the two releases to follow. Catch Without Arms features a much poppier sound, with just the right amount of experimentation. Some weak tracks, but the stronger ones remain in playlist rotation frequently even 8 years later

when I was deciding what to rate the album "Catch without arms" from the band Dredg, I accidently clicked the "superb" rating, instead of the '"classic" rating. I hope this doesn't cause some sort of crazy malfunction in the sputnikmusic.com system.

i had to change my rating for this one as i just listened to it on vinyl and i have to say, its purely classic. not a bad track and the heavier songs tie in with the slower/softer ones really nicely. i think as time goes by, we are going to have to split dredg into two bands. Leitmotif and El Cielo dredg, and CWA and the pariah dredg. im so excited to see what they do next, cause the previous two releases are brilliant

This is the best dredg album ever! Every song is just magnificent and amazing. This band is very amazing, and tracks like ode to the sun, catch without arms, and sang real are the songs that got me hooked on this band.
