| 2.9 good | Xenophanes EMERITUS | March 9th 18 | The closest I have come to caring about a BTBAM album since that EP seven years ago (brevity suits this exhausting band). However, I do miss the days when the were a smart metalcore band rather than a dumb progressive one.

| 3.5 great | TheMoonchild | March 8th 18 | BTBAM have gone back to square one and given us an "autopilot" album (looks like the title was more prophetic than any of us expected)... and it's a wise move. Despite that, BTBAM try some new tricks here and there but they use it in favour of the music rather than centering the whole album around them, which is what cost Coma Ecliptic some points. Tommy's voice is beginning to show age and some of the riffs are recycled, but the music is good and exciting enough to excuse it. I've only given this one listen so my opinion may change in the coming days, but it's an easy improvement and if Automata II is as good as this, BTBAM may officially be back.

| 4.5 superb | DaleCooper1 | March 5th 18 | Can't stop listening to this. It's my favorite 35 minute stretch of music BTBAM has ever done. If they somehow pull this off again with part 2 this summer it'll be facking insane.

| 3.0 good | demon of surveillance | March 14th 18 | It's that time of the decade where internet metal nerds cream themselves over BTBAM making an okay album.

| 0.0 | on suicide watch | March 10th 18 | Kicks ass, as expected. Edit: Grew off me a bit, it just makes me want to listen to their older, better stuff tbh.

| 3.0 good | GamamJ | July 4th 20 | A semi-successful attempt at a return to a rougher sound. After polishing their prog to the extent of almost losing what was so unique about BtBaM in the first place on Coma, they try adding back a bit of that harsher edge and crazier stylistic changes. Unfortunately, it just doesn't flow as well as it used to, and the writing doesn't seem to be where it was. Also too much core for my liking. Only reason this gets a higher rating than Coma is due to the shorter run-time.

| 2.5 average | J.C. van Beekum | June 25th 20 | This record was utterly superfluous. Do yourself a favour and listen to the second part, it's far superior in almost every conceivable way.

| 3.3 great | Trey STAFF | March 23rd 18 | This album suffers from the same problem that all BTBAM albums suffer from. Individual parts are cool sounding, but the songs lack focus and/or direction, and by the end of the album there is absolutely nothing that stays with you.

| 4.5 superb | ProsicIndulgences | March 8th 18 | Fantastic album from beginning to end. There's a hole when you finish it like an act 2 should come in and I assume that's where Automata II sits. It brings the heaviness that was missed from Coma Ecliptic without losing the technicalities and finesse that made it so great. Definitely getting some Great Misdirect vibes but this is a stellar entry in their discography.

| 3.5 great | AmbushReality | March 7th 18 | **my 1000th album rating wooo** I can't say I've ever failed to enjoy a BtBaM release and this is certainly no different. Feels like a natural follow up to *Coma*, and if the second half is this good, we may be discussing this alongside *Parallax* and *Colors* as their best release (though *Coma* is my personal favorite).

| 5.0 classic | Tundra (Sput Villain) | September 15th 25 | Automata I is one of BTBAM's most underrated albums, by far. Yes, just Automata I. AI is the band at their least gimmicky, I'd argue, ever. It has an incredible, dark and foreboding atmosphere, and simply brings you on a crazy journey. Yellow Eyes is their most underrated song by far. I will never get why most find that song so average. Unfortunately, a certain "II" sequel completely ruins the vibe that was built here. But that's alright. It's still possible to pretend it doesn't exist.

| 3.5 great | rudy4u51 | August 4th 18 | Doesn't have the staying power of previous albums
Bump |
| 3.5 great | cjbizzlebizzle | May 9th 18 | BTBAM have abandoned some of the true wonky prog wank found on their previous release Coma Ecliptic for a heavier, more focused sound on Automata I. Heavier all around with more gusto back in Tommy's approach as he comes off as harsh and powerful for most of this record. This sound is as tight as it was on Parallax as BTBAM effortlessly navigate complex but well-written song structures. In the end Automata is held back by the fact that BTBAM really don't do much exploration from their what they have previously accomplished. That being said, a tight BTBAM record is better than one where they explore needlessly and miss, like on Coma.

| 3.0 good | TheManMachine | April 16th 18 | First half of divided full-length issued independently months before part two -- less for aesthetic reasons and more cuz it would prove more palatable than yet another enormous prog-pill to swallow methinks. Hence it reading like an extensive EP instead of concluding on a cliffhanger I spose. As is often the case for highfalutin concepts in the extreme metal sphere, the one here is basically invisible; and that's likely for the best. Raspy vox goin' ragged and persevering gaudy awk mitigated by boosting the urgent gruff a bit and the fact that these guys have seemingly been touring+recording complicated-ass music 350 days a year for like 15 years now. Going through the motions maybe, but those are still some instrumentally impressive motions. Momentous Moment Within Motions: premiere guitar hook on "Blot", which is both intriguing and abominable.

| 3.5 great | Risodo | March 12th 18 | "Automata I" is another hit in the discography of BTBAM, which was already expected. But if we talk about the songs, and how they unfold to catch the attention of the listener, it seems shallow and sometimes annoying. Even if it's only six songs, and a first part of an already established project, i was a little disappointed with many moments of the album. Progressive Metal seems to have condensed in my mind, making "Automata I" just a average record.

| 3.5 great | Jared Floryan | March 10th 18 | Right now owls are drowning themselves in obsession, and people recall the lovely laughs from the loves of their lives. Meanwhile the BTBAM quintet on this day deliver to us Automata I. As the name suggests, it's a two-parter, with the other piece set to drop sometime during Summer. Whereas Future Sequence was too ambitious and Coma Ecliptic was - in a word - ultra cheesy, the band's newest offering is a tad grounded; that 35-minute runtime doesn't hurt as much as one would think. The familiar metallic sheen that went all but missing on this act's last record is dialed up here, although certain elements like the frequent singing are still present. The musicianship remains tight as ever and Jamie King's production style - whilst loud - allows for just about every instrument to be heard audibly. Yeah, the songwriting doesn't always give off much personality and Tommy Giles Rogers' cleans (not the harsh vocals) are becoming harder to stomach, but I still got mileage out of Automata I for what it's worth. Speaking generally, this one's a fairly cohesive listen and I'm real curious about the next chapter.

| 4.0 excellent | TrantaLocked | March 10th 18 | My experience with this album is similar to what I had with Meshuggah's new album; wow'd at first with a steady decline in interest after. Automata I doesn't sound like an album that's going to grow on me. It's still really good and deserving of my 4, which could change. Also, AMAZING production!

| 4.0 excellent | Tw1ster | March 9th 18 | I've pretty much enjoyed everything BTBAM has done and this is no different. I thoroughly enjoyed Coma Ecliptic and I find this builds on that album quite a bit while revisiting some of the qualities that made them so unique in the first place. Can't wait for part II

| 4.5 superb | Nazgul666 | March 9th 18 | A huge step up from Coma in my opinion. I am very excited to see what part 2 has in store...these guys haven't lost it for sure...And seeing them live on the colors tour was a top 3 of EVER show for me. Rock on
