Wish he'd stayed in this scene with this sound. This record is crude, but it was a wildly innovative banger in its day. Better for his body that he left the scene, though

Moby's career started out with this pretty average techno album, one that included some great and catchy tracks (Drop a Beat, Next is the E, Go) but also some less memorable ones.

For some time now, Moby has been one of the most eclectic electronic producers alive, being almost defiantly different . Early on in his career, though, he played things pretty straight, opting for driving techno beats and a rave aesthetic. While the first five songs are pretty nondescript, and in some cases a little irritating, when "Mercy" begins, we start to see the Moby we know and love peak through. It's pretty obviously influenced by ambient and downtempo, as is closer "Stream", offering a break from the upbeat techno. The second half of the album is where things pick up, with some genuinely great techno songs in "Go" and "Help Me To Believe". He'd definitely go on to do bigger and better things, and eclipse all sorts of subgenres in electronic music, but he began his work here, through a straightforward template that he tweaked to his content little by little throughout the years.

Best Moby Album. A perfectly made rave album, which contains elements of different musical
genres, like acid house, techno, ambient and trance. Moby takes straight-ahead rhythms,
unforgettable melodies and great samples and makes these to beautifully cohexist in a
totally unrepetitive and really enjoyable album.
