The very first CD I ever bought. Serious sentimental attachment, but it never hurts to be one of the better albums of the year.

Ladies and gentlemen, meet the real Switchfoot. After three albums of garage grunge rock, Switchfoot finally moves on from trying to be the next Nirvana and gives us a full, complete, proper album. The Beautiful Letdown has a near perfect pace, and it's balladry works far, far better than anything the band has done before. In addition, there are several incredibly memorable tracks including "Meant to Live," "This Is Your Life," "Redemption," "Twenty-Four," and the absolutely perfect re-recording of "Dare You to Move." There are a couple missteps that sound too stock for the album to be perfect, but it is the first complete picture of what Switchfoot can be when they're firing on all cylinders.

Switchfoot is nothing more than soulless garbage trying to come across as soulful garbage. I remember the video for... I dunno, one of their shitty songs, and seeing this greasy, ugly jack ass trying to look passionate. Clutching the microphone and letting his guitar swing below without a care in the world! My god! He’s so wrapped up in himself! What an asshole. They’re trying to take angst ridden alternative rock (a la Nirvana) and elevate it needlessly with soaring vocals and drawn out choruses (a la Creed). You can’t "Creed" Nirvana! Frankly with all the people who hate both of those bands so damn much, I'm shocked that ANYBODY likes this.

A good album to say the least and prolly one of my most listened to albums when I was growing up. Its got well written lyrics, catchy tunes and the entire album maintains a pretty stable atmosphere with few songs being great and the rest being considerably good (mostly anyway).
