I thought this album was horrendous. Def Leppard at their best are a serious guilty pleasure of mine, but this sounded way too much like they're trying to ape modern pop-rock. It's embarrassing to listen to.

The Leppards have become heavier in their sound since the last studio album. "X" was more pop-rock with rare moments that reminded the old band. Despite of the sound though, I found many songs were memorable; a fact that is not evident in the Sparkle Lounge no matter how many times you listen it. rRecommendations: "Go", "Nine Lives"

I was a big Def Leppard fan growing up and loved the early albums. Everything through Pyromania was amazing. I must admit, despite its popularity, Hysteria marked the end of the band as true hard rockers. Their last several albums have sucked royally, but I had high hopes for this album which was supposed to be a return to form. Unfortunately, it is not.
The album is rather mellow accept for the opening track. In fact, most of the songs seem to be midtempo and Joe Elliot's voice sounds worn. There really are no rememberable songs on this album and that is a shame. I want to like the new Def Leppard because I am an old school hard rocker who actually does buy new albums from older bands. This one, however, I cannot defend.
