Motion City's breakthrough album. The band plays uplifting pop punk songs, and are best identified by their use of Moog synthesizers and better than average drumming. The band wears their influence on their sleeves, with hints of the Pixies, Superchunk, Weezer and At the Drive In to be found throughout the album. There are a couple catchy melodies and some good hooks. The singer's lyrics can be kind of cringey at times, as the vocalist, Justin, has a sort of meta, all too self-aware style. And while he can deliver a great melody, they are largely hit or miss. Alot of the music lacks any kind of punch as well, and there is a fair amount of filler too. The band still showed alot of promise and presented a unique sound with I Am the Movie. Best tracks are The Future Freaks Me Out, My Favorite Accident, Perfect Teeth, Don't Call it a Comeback, Modern Chemistry and Mary without Sound.
