Man, I was expecting a complete shitshow, but instead I got an album that is just wholly uninteresting. This is the closest they've come to their early sound since Hands All Over, but the songs are too homogeneous to really top any of their early work. And when they do stand out, it's not for good reasons. (In what universe do the lyrics to Whiskey make any sense??) Adam Levine's voice is a pleasure to listen to, but as the album goes on, he's kinda singing the same melody lines over the same electronic beats with one little looped guitar lick as if to try to say "Hey! We're still that band!"
And then comes Closure, where they actually are that band. This incredibly enjoyable and fun 12 minute jam session (with some excellent sax playing) is basically what the .5 in the score is for. Listen to that song, and skip everything else.

Maroon 5 tries to emulate Drake? As expected, it's largely full of "misses". However, I always have a hard time slapping 1's on anything, there's typically at least one good song buried deep enough on any album. Here it's "Lips on You". But people seem to be neglecting the ambitious 11-minute funk/jazz jam to close the album out ("Closure"). It's been years since the band has tried anything this sprawling and well thought-out and it's most certainly NOT indicative of a band going through the motions like many on here would have you think. Grow some balls and give the WHOLE album a try, yeesh. Pistol out.

I don't understand the low ratings. This is Maroon 5's best album. Upbeat songs, beautiful harmonies, different from old Maroon 5, that had a lot of depressive and gay songs. Maybe people from this site are depressive and don't like happy songs.

Band can be catchy, all the singles off their last album sucked. I wouldn't rate an album of their's above 2.5, except maybe their first. What Lovers Do is a damn catchy track though.
