At first glance, Visiter seems to be just there, its brand of breezy folk lying naked in the open with all on display. From Meric Long's seemingly frank, no-frills delivery to Logan Kroeber's "rainfall of rocks" percussion style, Visiter's unfaltering solidness makes it a strange offering in a genre so usually bound to intimacy. But it compels the listener to weave in and out of Visiter's musical tapestry, letting the songs fall around in the spaces in between. And when, as so often happens, the occasional musical idea strikes, it strikes deep, as beautiful lyrics swim over frenzied percussion and hurried, twangy guitar lines. And that, of course, is Visiter's strength- it's an album so at ease with itself that it's hard not to be taken into the folds of its fatherly arms: serious, but in the end, always there for you.

This year, The Dodos have caught on like a wildfire. Not often do I really say music has intangibles, but Vister is an exception to that rule. From "Walking" to "God," the ride twists and turns with eloquent vocals and a stripped down sound that is irresistible to deny. With the exception of "It's That Time Again," this album is incredible. The lyrics are beautiful and painful; going through a tumultuous love journey within a personal life experience. So many nooks and crannies to discover and explore with each listen between the little hints of electric guitar in "Fools" to the complete directional change in "Joe's Waltz," Vister is simply stunning. It's time to catch on.

It saddens me to think that when i first heard this i thought it was boring and not really worth a proper listen, so when i looked up at my itunes to find out what my ears were suddenly enjoying so much and i read The Dodos i couldnt believe it. The Visiter is pack with catchy head bobbing instrumentation and vocals that just make you want to sing along. Maybe first impressions arent so important after all.

The Dodos do it all on their second album, an hour-long kaleidoscope of psychedelic folk, world music beats, and an constantly-shifting array of melodic ideas and lyrical thoughts that fairly blow one away on first listen. Drummer Meric Long’s training in the West African style of Ewe drumming pays off incredible dividends here, as his hard-driving beats and ridiculous sense of syncopation turns nearly every song into a clinic of talent. Add to that guitarist/vocalist Logan Kroeber’s mellower Ben Gibbard-ish pipes and talented strumming and you have a largely acoustic world-folk record that makes for one of the strangest and most exciting releases of the year.

I have yet to put this on in front of any fan of music and not have them ask "What is this? This is awesome." I love the interplay between the acoustic/percussion section. Amazing execution, and his voice is fantastic on top of that.

One of the happiest funnest records of the year, the wacked out percussion and awkward but intellegent lyrics make for an absolute good time. Sure Visiter's tone gets old and it makes for a very repetitive if you listen to the album as a whole but with songs like Red And Purple, God? and my favorite, Fools how can you not atleast enjoy this? Visiter is a joyous indie folk album that will have you dancing atleast a quater of the way through until your ready to put Brand New's The Devil And God back on.
