If there's one thing I can't tolerate in black metal is bad vocals. And this is the epitome of extremely bad vocals. My drunken neighbour sings better than this.

The instrumentals are really cool, proggy and inventive, mostly not bm I'd say but at times it
does go bm-ey. Really interesting instrumentals that are the sole reason why I want to re-listen
to this because the vocals whether clean or harsh are godawful. The clean ones sounds like they
are impersonating a ghost to scare kids on Halloween, and the harsh ones sound like a baby
burping. Track 7 is a perfect example of a cool track being ruined by Casper vocals. Thankfully
the album does not have a lot of vocals, which thanks to the creative instrumentals keeps it at a
safe 3.8

A work of surreal atmosphere: sombre, lethargic, eerie. It attempts to mesmerize and for the most part it succeeds. Certainly a compelling metal album.

Imagine if Obscura by Gorguts had a progressive black metal cousin. If so, this album would be it. Just like Gorguts' masterpiece, Written In Waters manages to be extraordinarily unconventional yet at the same time still being one of the best albums in the genre itself.

This is very interesting progressive black metal. A big aspect that I can really appreciate about it is that there no focus on just one instrument (bass can even be heard well which is rare in black metal). The weakness of this album is the vocals are not extremely amazing, they are just OK (cleans and screaming).
