Hey Slipknot, this is what great Nu-Metal sounds like when you are actually focused on your music and not your image. I think many people put Static-X in the whole "bad nu-metal" group without listening to their entire discography because of their image. Its a shame because "Start A War" by Static-X is one of the best albums that Nu-Metal has to offer. I highly recommended to any metal fan, you will be shocked how well made and consistent this album is.

Several albums manage to successfully meld two (or more) (sub)genres together. Start a War isn't one of them. While Static-X are often considered an industrial act, the music here feels very nu metal more times than not. And during the moments that simply scream single fodder, it's tough to discern differences between it and average alternative rock. It's simply little more than a middle school kid's dose of music and for anyone else, it's unfulfilling nostalgia.

Static-X does what it does best: make static. Start a War is simply a bunch of noisy angst with absolutely no point. Is it meant to be danced to? Is it supposed to be metal? It certainly is about as unmusical as you can get, the lyrics are down-right atrocious, and it's mind-numbingly repetitive and simple. The only thing saving this album from a 2 is the fact that it's loud and it has some punch, and not just mindless fist-flinging. Check out "Dirthouse" for the pinnacle of this album.

Static-X is a pretty unique-sounding American metal band. I ended up mooching this album off my friend for a flash movie i was making. Then i saw i forgot to ever give it back. So hey? why not write a review for it. Well I popped into the CD player, and these were the first things I noticed:
Wayne Static - He plays some prety heavy guitar riffs that fit well with the song, and i think he does some of the effects. His vocals though, they are really bad at many points, some of his screaming/shouting in songs like "Enemy" can be good depending on your tastes, but to me a lot of the vocals in this album are really bad, and are one of the low points of this album.
Keyboards/Effects - The Keyboards/Effects are some of the things Static-X make good use of frequently in their songs. They compliment the album extremely well and are one of the things that make Static-X more unique then many of the other dime-a-dozen new bands. They are one of the high points of the album.
Drums - While the drums are nothing special, they are pretty good at setting a really heavy scene for the songs, and they always seem like they are "Building Up" to a storm, but they never do. Nick probably isn't the very best, but he seems to have fun with the album.
Bass - The Bass is pretty meh, it's hard to hear much of, and the bassist doesn't do much that is really interesting, this is another low point of the album.
