What's the plural of genius, anyway? Simon Posford and Raja Ram are that. Shpongle were, from 1998 to 2005, simply the best electronic act in the world, if not the best in any genre. And as if two unbelievable, mind-expanding albums weren't enough, they went and made Nothing Lasts - the best trance album ever, one of the best psychedelic albums ever, one of the the best progressive albums ever, shit, one of the best albums ever PERIOD. Every track is a little masterpiece; when added up and linked together superbly, they make one 60-odd minute odyssey into the minds of the most under-valued musicians of the turn of the century. So they did the only logical thing and split up. How the hell could they follow this? And so, with their mighty third album, Shpongle departed the world, having forever left their legend in the hearts of thousands of worshippers, and ensured that in the future, they'll mean just as much to thousands more.

Simon Posford and Raja Ram issued two albums which came after this, so the title has since become ironic; beforehand, Nothing Lasts... But Nothing Is Lost's name made accurate sense, though that's a discussion for another time. The record's 20 tracks play out as if there was merely one interminable, powerful song with quite the stylistic variety and brilliant arrangements, all while said piece fuses trance with ambience, psychedelia, and pretty much influences borrowed from 'round the universe. Shpongle's third effort is an audacious dragon trapped in a colorful cellar, and even if you feel like dancing to its inner and outer magnificence, Nothing Lasts... is something that must be experienced if the atmosphere and artwork are anything to go by.

My, oh my. I'm actually speechless to the level of perfection this album reaches. The instrumental work is just outstandung, and it would be cool if the guys from Shpongle just stoped there; but see, the thing is, they're also incredibly consistent. There isn't a filler song in sight, and every song just flows to the next one. And before you've realized it, an hour of your life has passed by; but it's an hour you won't, by any means, want back. Whithin the genre this might just be the magnum opus of any kind of electronic music. This is the album against all others should be messured. I... I've run out of words and expresions to further explain why this is as good as it is... it just is. Electronic album of the century.

I was Shpongle die-hard fan, until heard this album. Maybe the problem was that I was anticipating something as magical as the first albums, maybe the problem was even existence of expectations, maybe something else. And when the album was released I liked it briefly, however that waned very fast. The tracks are repetitive, "poppy" and without some good idea behind.rLuckily Simon and Raja Ram soon enough realized themselves that this experiment failed, so the following albums are conceptually similar to the first two (generally good, but not even close to that greatness).
