4.5 superb | Trey STAFF | September 17th 17 | In Contact was my first exposure to Caligula’s Horse and their rhythmic, yet melodic, brand of progressive metal. It took me to their fourth release to finally bother with them because, honestly, I felt like the band name was kind of stupid, and I assumed the music was just as bad. Obviously, I had been missing out. In Contact reminds me of modern prog bands such as Tesseract mixed with the traditional progressive metal of artists such as Porcupine Tree and Riverside, and they manage to take the absolute best from both versions of the genre. From the twitchy “Dream the Dead” and “Will’s Song” to the dreamy “Love Conquers All” there isn’t a single bit of filler on Caligula’s Horse’s In Contact. In Contact is another one of those albums that has continued to grow on me since the day I first heard it two years ago.

2.0 poor | ElHombreChino | December 26th 17 | This is like the handbook of generic prog metal. It sounds in its best moments like un uninspired version of Leprous and in its worst parts as a boring Dream Theater side project

2.6 average | Erwann S. STAFF | April 12th 23 | Prog metal whose chugging, very high clean vox, and "cinematic-er than Michael Bay" soundscape really make a point at featuring basically everything I don't like about the modern prog scene that listened to way too much Dream Theater. Shame, the two before this one were cool.

4.0 excellent | MaidenUFO | February 24th 22 | Caligulas Horse is a tremendous prog metal band, like Karnivool. "Dream the Dead" (ONE OF THE BEST PROG SONGS EVER) and "Songs for No One" are masterpieces.

4.0 excellent | YRI | October 25th 20 | In Contact is Caligula's Horse' best album - and it might just be the best prog metal record of the 2010s.

4.5 superb | Mythodea | November 7th 17 | My first contact with Caligula's Horse leaves no space for wrong impressions. They certainly rbelong to that part of the current progressive metal with great musicianship, slick production and roverall extravagance. The problem with most of these bands, is whether or not there's any meat to rbe found. For every Haken out there there are hundreds of copy cats with half the shine. rCaligula's Horse is not the case. I've found myself taken aback from the great riffs and themes. rThere are many moods explored here, from the Leprous-like Graves with the frantic saxophone, to rthe mellow ballad with 'Capulet', admittedly one of my favourite tracks off this. I've learnt to rappreciate Jim Grey's delicate voice from his other band, Arcane, and this time I feel like he routshines himself, in an album where every player strives to outshine the other. rrOf course, the album's story is characterised by the fair amount of cheese that burdens many prog ralbums nowadays. Especially the track 'Inertia and the Writing on the Wall', while containing some rgreat imagery, leaves the listener wondering, and the possibility of it being completely void of any specific purpose makes it sound awkward. However, the album is one of the best prog albums rI've heard this year and the modern-prog lover should definitely give it a spin.

4.0 excellent | dogmaJo | September 16th 17 | Those guys really put a lot of effort into this album, starting with Dream The Dead which is a
great opener, followed by a very strong tune called Will’s Song [Let The Colours Run], especially
when the solo kicks in – magnificent [watch the official video below]. The Hands Are The Hardest &
Love Conquers All give you air to breathe so that Songs For No One can hit you right in the face &
while you are collecting your teeth, Capulet offers you a hand of support. Fill My Heart truly
conveys comfort & builds up confidence so that you are prepared to face Inertia And The Weapon Of
The Wall which further opens your eyes. The Cannon’s Mouth gets bigger with each listen
& provides you with enough self esteem. The whole number is on the edge of perfection but that
outro of Graves gets me every time & I am secretly in love with the refrain of Atlas [Revisited]!
