5.0 classic | travisaurusrex | September 23rd 17 | Finally an album to top Constellations in my ears, can't stop playing this album on repeat. Not too many bands can release a full LP every two years, stay true to their sound, improve on their sound while trying new material/instruments, and mature their sound. Glad ABR hasn't become soft like PWD.

3.0 good | grandfather | September 17th 17 | The epitome of "if it ain't broke, don't fix it." This record blends the more streamlined songwriting of the last record with the relentless aggression displayed on Rescue and Restore. Basically, more of ABR doing what they do best.

4.5 superb | SexualManChocolate | October 9th 17 | Their last album sucked because they tried to sound mature and progressed. Fuck that shit. All they needed was a banger, like this album.

5.0 classic | Ghost70 | September 22nd 17 | Absolute stunner. Exceptionally technical and complex. King of Sorrow, Lifeline, Float, Carbon Copy, and especially Generations are some of the best songs they have ever written. Generations is unreal! The whole thing is phenomenal. I thought FIFAP would be their apex, but this is even better. JB shows off some serious guitar tones... and Matt's drumming is inhuman. It is very dense and packed, so you do have to sit with it and let it mature. This is as goodas it gets, IMO.

4.0 excellent | ChocolateStarfish | October 9th 17 | Quake should be featured in the next Pirate of The Caribbean movie

4.0 excellent | ExhaleTheLight | September 20th 17 | I don't think anything they put out will top FIFAP. This is a very good followup. They sacrificed a lot of the catchy hooks for more meatier riffs.

3.0 good | MegaResurrectedJake4 | September 19th 17 | Just way too monotonous overall. Have been a huge fan of standout tracks of ABR over the years, like FIFAP's Martyr, but
just far too often its riffage for no reason. Too often its just a bunch of 'songs' that don't really sound unique, or cohesive,
or purposeful. Maybe its me growing out of it, maybe its just that its getting this stale for me at this point, because I think it
sounds pretty similar to R & R overall, but it hit me very lightly this time around. It also sounds just kind've odd how bland
Jake's lyrics are sometimes because u would feel like he'd have better stuff if he so chose to write something less
accessible. but maybs not, really have no idea.
after a few listens, it was a bit better. King of Sorrow, Quake, and Dangerous are sufficiently satisfying.

4.0 excellent | Risodo | May 9th 18 | "Phantom Anthem" is simply another work with the face and sound of August Burns Red. It's even difficult to compare all the works of the band, since they all look like the same album. But even so, this is not a negative or degrading factor, since they have always been very good and aware in what they do. It remains to us that the band will have in the future one of the most solid discographies in Metal history.

4.0 excellent | Have you tried jamming Helcaraxe? CONTRIBUTOR | December 4th 17 | This is the most concise album I think that
August Burns Red has put out. The balance
between shredding riffs and hefty chugs has
been perfected, and the drumming is absolutely
furious with especially interesting fills on
the track "Invisible Enemy" (which is almost
certainly an ABR classic). This is without a
doubt my 2nd favorite 2017 release and my 2nd
favorite ABR release.

3.0 good | cjbizzlebizzle | November 12th 17 | August Burns Red has released an album every two years since 2005 and is one of the more consistent outfits that spawned out of the golden age of Metalcore. With Phantom Anthem they continue to polish their formula but really don't do much beyond that. If you are familiar with the last few releases, expect more of the same. The songs generally consist of a bright, technical lead over a heavy riff verse/chorus repeat into a quieter bridge only to finally explode once again into a crushing, attempting to be epic breakdown. If you were into metalcore during its prime you have probably heard at least 1000 variations on this same breakdown structure; it's hard to find originality here these days. The vocals are much more of the same and with the 53 minute runtime they get tiresome by the end as this album unfortunately overextends itself. The Frost and Lifeline are standouts and will give anyone a sense of what they are getting into.

3.0 good | ksolan | October 22nd 17 | On first listen, this sounded like background gym music at best. rBut after repeated listens, it gets somewhat better.
Bump |
3.0 good | PistolPete | October 17th 17 | Like most of ABR's recent releases, this plays nicely all the way through. Some stuff sticks with you along the way, nothing really flat out blows...but the experience overall is quickly forgotten once it's done. "King of Sorrow" is the one exception, that song is a blast. This is perfect for music you can play in the background at the gym without needing to sing along. It's "lasting appeal" once outside that kind of scenario would be in question though. Recommended Songs: King of Sorrow, Float, Dangerous

4.0 excellent | marf1300 | October 12th 17 | PA does sound like a typical ABR album. The songs are built out of the same in pieces in mostly the same orders as before. However, they have refined all those pieces. This album has some of the best riffs (and heaviest!), melodies, breakdowns, and rhythms I have ever heard from ABR. Also, the transitions don't feel forced they way they did on FIFAP (don't you hate it when a banjo interrupts an awesome riff?). All in all, this is one of their best ever.
Bump |
1.5 very poor | MewCore | October 11th 17 | Uninspired and stale with no memorable melodies. They even sound tired like they are aware they didn't move one inch with last few albums, deep in their safe zone. It was a chore to get through the album. Poor songwriting and I disagree they have refined most aspects. It's like they become a poor cover band of themselves. Forced, plain flat and boring. I adore Thrill Seeker, Messengers and Constellations so it's sad to see they became your lifeless-generic-run of the mill plastic metalcore act.

3.5 great | Chino smoking it up! | October 10th 17 | Well...i started at 3....going to 4 in a 2nd listening...really technical album m/
Bump |
3.0 good | Panzerchrist | October 9th 17 | Definitely more raw and aggressive than their previous, but rather monotonous in a lot of aspects as well. The proggier elements that helped diversify their previous couple releases seem to be really sparse this time around, and while a back-to-roots approach will definitely help keep their momentum going, it makes the album feel a little backwards. Nothing here is written particularly bad or anything, but it's clear that the band are at their best when they're pushing themselves in new directions.
Bump |
4.0 excellent | Reviewc0re | October 9th 17 | ABR drop the 'proggy' elements from their last effort and go for an all killer-no filler attitude
and yea this kills
Bump |
2.5 average | Durrzo | October 7th 17 | They haven't really changed their sound since Rescue and Restore, and it has become stale. Just more of the same, hard to get excited about. There's no doubt that it's well crafted music, but we've heard all this before, done in almost this exact way. They need a sound shift, badly.
