Genius isn't enough to describe this album. Undoubtedly one of the greatest albums ever assembled by mankind. The atmospheric quality of this record, mixed with the devlings into jazz, dissonance, and general avant-garde beauty make it one of the greatest things to listen to in any mood (except to get pumped up.) There's a nigh a thing on here to find fault in, as everything is crafted to perfection, including the beautiful voice of Mark Hollis, which is capable of sounding fragile and angry at the same time. The songs here are actual pieces of art as oppose to songs, which are formulaic. Each song here is at least 5 minutes of pure well thought out emotion. There are no highlights; everything is brilliant.

This record and another one further on this list are generally credited as the records that started post rock. And while many would take that post rock would mean pushing the instruments or production past their once thought limit, this record, isn?t really that. It?s to show what the genre as a whole could accomplish. And it does by mixing the simplest riffs with amazing ambient production, to create perhaps the most calming record on this list. Whereas some ambient records choose to be cold and isolate their audience, this one doesn?t do that at all. It?s warm, it welcomes you in. If you add to that some genuinely interesting philosophy on religion, it makes for a fantastic experience.

Laughing Stock is a titan of modern music. It spawned th entire post-rock movement in its creation (not Slint, mess off with that) and yet no post-rock record has come anywhere near leaving the same impact on me as Laughing Stock. Using influence of jazz and blues, Talk Talk creates an album larger than life with tense, sparse instrumentation. A wise giant, a god, an album that fully embraces it's themes of religion in all of its tranquil, ambitious glory.

This was a lot like Tago Mago, just awesome from start to finish. I had it playing while I did other things, and it seemed to be absolutely perfect for something like that. The only two tracks I didn't think were as great as the rest were Myrhhman and Taphead, for some reason, but everything else was just spectacular. They made a good move in making that change, even if it did sadly only end up in this album and nothing more. I would've liked to see what else they would do like this.

Ahh Talk Talk. With their 1991 release they created something unique and pioneering. The album is categorized as post-rock, and possibly the first widely considered post-rock album ever. But the album has a subtle jazz influence and it mostly revolve around superb drum grooves and enduring periods of ambience, this way there is no need for a climax. What gets me about this album is how remarkably beautiful it is, the music leaves you hypnotized with amazement, the guitar models another dimension of sound, while other instruments starts to blend in, deepening the sound but heightening the emotion. The album is intense, jazzy, staggering, immense and melancholic. It is one the best releases ever, if not the best.
