Rewind back to Christmas of last year and I had just recieved a vinyl player from my mom. I can't recall for the life of me why I asked for one, probably just to be cool, but mostly for all of the cool vinyl I knew my parents had stocked away. Ladies and gents, the album I received that morning was; The Fixx's Reach the Beach. Despite the fact that I have no basic understanding of what most of these songs are about nor do I believe them to be too complex, I found out one major statement.
This album is outstanding.
I don't know about you, but when I think great bass/guitar lead-ins, "One Thing Leads to Another" and "Saved By Zero" instantly come to mind. Diving deeper into the beach reveals all of these tracks are driven by extremely lit synthesizer leads and some super catchy choruses, all driven by the sweet spoken word lyrics of Cy Churin (Coolest name ever). The absolute God-tier "Opinions" verse 2 opener is to this day one of the greatest pick-up lines that can possibly be spoken; "I don't play chess but I could play with you." I probably have done absolutely nothing to prove to you this album is worthy of a 5 rating, but that's because it's just too hard to put into words. This album is an experience, plain and simple.

Their best. The Fixx are a lot better than critics give them credit for.
