"Amott told Rock Hard magazine in January that Loomis... has not contributed to the
songwriting on the group's new disc."
What the hell is the point of having a big name like his even there, then? Gonna be
another 2/5 play-it-safe cookie cutter trashfire.
actual review: So AE still aren't firing on all cylinders and this is still fairly
generic melodic death metal (even for AE), but it's still a notable improvement from
the cookie-cutter-because-we-don't-care-anymore album "War Eternal." This is like a
poor man's Rise of the Tyrant; not really worth talking about, but there are some cool
moments here or there.

It is like Justin Bieber ordered a producer to write a metal album for him. This is pure Jistin Bieber metal, thus pure garbage. Offensively bad.

On "Will To Power" Arch Enemy easily have their most talented line up. Alissa White-Gluz is defintely the best vocalist
they've had with the most potential for some vocal diversity, and Jeff Loomis can shred and riff around any former (or
current) Arch Enemy guitarist. Plus, the established band members kept talking about how this album was going to be
different; not just another standard Arch Enemy release. It seemed like the band had all the pieces in place to break from
their rut, and that they were finally willing to try. Unfortunately, nothing has changed. "Will To Power" is a slower, more-
accessible version of the previous release... and yes, Loomis is totally wasted on this album. Alyssa gets the chance to
expand her vocals in a few tracks. Unfortunately, the one she gets to shine the most on, is also the worst musically. On
paper, the ex-guitarist for Carcass paired with the lead guitarist and chief songwriter for Nevermore should result in
something awesome. Add to that the diverse vocal capabilities of Alyssa and "Will to Power" should have blown the doors
off the Melodic Death Metal genre. Instead, it's mearly a breeze.

Best album they've made in a while. Alissa's vocals sound even more beastly and passionate at some key points in the songs. Gone is the monotone vocals from "War Eternal", in is a wider, powerful vocal range by Alissa. The
greatest songs on this album are "The Race", "The World Is Yours", "Murder Scene", "First Day In Hell", and "A Fight I Must Win".
Pros: Better vocals on this album, explosive guitar riffs,
catchy lyrics, bold basslines, and creative keyboard elements.
Cons: The lyrics are dull in certain songs,
Barely any Loomis guitar riffs, reused riffs.
3.5/5 Solid Arch Enemy album that sounds pretty creative and fun until the very end. I would recommend this album over War Eternal anytime.

They really held back on this album instrumentally and lyrically. What the fuck Loomis? Lol!

Considering the lineup of the band on this release, someone would expected much more. That is not to say that Will to Power does not have its fair share of good moments, catchy riffs and an overall nice vocal performance, but as a whole it is rather generic, mediocre and eventually, too long for what it is. Nevertheless, it is a pleasant experience which unfortunately, for me, doesn't have any replay value.

Good for a laugh. There are some good songs at the beginning (The Race, Blood in the Water and The World Is Yours), but after the cliche ballad ''Reason to Believe'' the album gets boring. Not offensively bad, but my general reaction is one of sleepy boredom.
