Core kids turned gaze adults on RARE, and you can somehow feel how the core songwriting translates to a gazey aesthetic - there sure as hell are gazedowns here -, as well as the punch the band retains. An all-around great rock album that does end up being a teeny tiny one-trick pony. But it's a beautiful pony!

This sounds like new wave tried going hardcore, not the other way around. Plenty of shoegaze comparisons can be drawn too.

A melodic hardcore band going soft all of the sudden? That was a bad sign at first, but
the final result is incredible.
Don't know if it's going to be on "Best of 2017" lists, but this work of art is sure as
hell going to be on mine.
