0.0 | VaxXi | May 5th 17 | At what point do you come to terms with the fact that you aren't the same band you share your namesake with? After their initial reformation in 2008, Dishwalla packed in a new ensemble of musicians including a new vocalist, bassist, and drummer; leaving only guitarist Rodney Cravens and keyboardist Jim Wood from the band's original line up.
As far as arguments in where the identity of a band rests, the strongest case favors J.R. Richards' and his ability to elevate otherwise generic radio-centric alt rock into something far more expansive and special with his breathtaking vocal prowess.
With his absence, and to a further extent, the absence of the other aforementioned members, Dishwalla are once more a bland alternative rock act who sounds lost and confused with how dated this record sounds despite being a 2017 release. Just boring and badly written.
