I'm actually pretty happy that Green Day decided to release this bombastic, flamboyant, groovy, an authentic as hell 70's rock period piece of an album under the name of a side project that has an alter ego approach to it. An album like this would have be taken as more of a revivalist effort, an attempt to revisit their influences instead of maturing if it was released with the Green Day name tagged on, when that's really not the case at all. Truth is, while Green Day made the grownup choice to test their abilities and create their ambitious 2000's rock opera American Idiot, this album was always meant to exist in its own little world, untainted by the expectations and legacy linked to a band that was met with equal amounts of acclaim and criticism, and had a lot to live up to. Stop Drop and Roll!!! is an experience comparable to watching a movie set in a separate universe pay tribute to a time of grimy independent rock n' roll in garages long gone, and having a really fun, carefree and over the top time at doing so.
