4.0 excellent | BiOZed | September 12th 11 | First you hear the smooth Goldfrapp's voice answering the sweet accoustic guitar, the whole thing creating a relaxing and kind of mind-blowing tracks. Then there are those little electronic effects that allows the album having some upbeat moments. Seventh Tree is a very cohesive piece of work which is good to listen to when you're doing nothing.

3.5 great | Rudy K. EMERITUS | February 5th 09 | It takes about six and a half minutes before a casual listener might realize their listening to an electronica outfit, as a drum machine explodes onto the scene halfway through ?Little Bird.? Whereas previous albums focused on Gregory?s innovative beats and textures, Seventh Tree?s focus is on Goldfrapp?s lovely, breathy voice. While the down tempo ballads that start off the album might initially turn off fans, later songs such as ?Happiness? feature beautiful, multi-tracked vocals and a bouncy pop beat and build a pleasant vibe that continues, with just a few bumps in the road (see snoozer ?Eat Yourself?), for the rest of the record.

3.5 great | AggravatedYeti | April 2nd 08 | Well...wow, ok didn't see this coming. Honestly I expected another heaping pile of electronic bullshit with a few awesome tracks hidden beneath the sonic vomit. I was wrong! It's pretty awesome. The electronic acoustic sound Goldfrapp has adopted for 'Seventh Tree' shines through out. 'Clowns' mutters in an out of beautiful, barely discernible verses, while 'Caravan Girl' and 'Cologne Cerrone Houdini' find them adopting an almost vast/epic feel unseen in any other Goldfrapp LP. Plus 'Eat Yourself' is fucking awesome. They got more laid back, though I'm not sure how exactly, but it works tremendously. A truly beautiful album, with few missteps, but few innovations as well.

4.0 excellent | Iai EMERITUS | February 13th 08 | It'd probably be a disservice to both the genre and this album to describe Seventh Tree as a folk record, yet that's roughly the territory in which we're operating. While there certainly are electronic flourishes still, they feel like a secondary concern, because the atmosphere is designed to feel so close, so down-home. Even on the tracks where the acoustic guitars aren't at the forefront, they're still a crucial part of the lasting impression these songs leave. From a woman who only two years ago was promoting her album by simulating masturbation with a theremin, it's a complete revelation. Each song here is beautiful, tender, and home to hidden depths and a lyrical richness you'd have never imagined could exist in a Goldfrapp song. "A&E" and "Happiness" are great pop songs with surprisingly dark hearts, while "Eat Yourself" is simply a fantastic piece of work. "Caravan Girl" and "Cologne Cerrone Houdini" move things into more upbeat/epic territory, but the atmosphere is never broken. A great album on every level.
