Lola vs. Powerman and the Moneygoround (part 1) is such an amazing album. I went through a breif period last year where I listened to it obsessively. I even wrote a story inspired by the story of that tricky-dick crossdresser Lola. Every song on this album stands out in it's own way, from the swinging opener "The Contenders" to the soft heartfelt "Get Back in Line", to the hit single "Lola" and the hard-rocking "Top of the Pops", the strange "Apeman", I could go on endlessly about the songs on this record.
The Kinks too, are a very underrated band, and their concept albums are funny, sad, catchy, and amazing. There's more to them than "All Day and All of the Night" currently being whored out on a JC Penney commercial, and this one shows it.
