Stupidly underrated, I can see why Dave's singing on this album would put people off but frankly it still sounds good. This album contains a great instrumental ('Into the Lungs of Hell'), the first track Dave wrote post-Metallica ('Set the World Afire') and Mustaine's personal tribute to Cliff Burton ('In My Darkest Hour') also one of the best Megadeth songs. Honourable mentions to some underrated 'Deth tracks 'Mary Jane' and 'Hook in Mouth'

No idea where the hate on this album comes from. The production is really bad, yes, but the songs and playing are phenomenal. Poland?s jazzy and peog influences really come across in his solos, and clearly have more of an influence on the proggier songwriting. Super underrated.

Most of this is better than it gets credit for. Hook In Mouth and Set The World Afire are probably my favorite songs on here. Into the Lungs of Hell is an instrumental, which isn't very common for this band. Mary Jane is kind of lame, but it and the Anarchy in the UK cover are the only ones I skip when listening to this CD. Kinda funny how he doesn't perform that song anymore because of the first line. The production is really weak in the original, so get the remastered version if you can.

One of the most overlooked Megadeth albums to date, 1988's So Far, So Good...So What! was written during a time when Megadeth was at the peak of their turmoil. Dave Mustaine in the depths of a heroin addiction, Chris Poland and Gar Samuelson had just been fired from the band, leaving David Ellefson as the only stable member of the band. Chuck Behler and Jeff Young were recruited as the drummer and lead guitarist for this album, and so began the rush to put this album together. The lack of time, organization, and abundance of heroin clearly shines through on this album with horrible production and even some sheerly horrid Megadeth songs. Anarchy In The UK, although not a Megadeth song, is a terrible cover and shows how at the time, a Sex Pistols cover was not what Megadeth needed to do. 502 is a prime example of filler, and even Mary Jane has some very off-the-wall vocals which seem to be from Mustaine's deep heroin addiction. Through the layers upon layers of reverb however, are several classic Megadeth songs. Hook In Mouth, a song lashing out at the PMRC is a very memorable Megadeth tune, and the ode to Cliff Burton, In My Darkest Hour, is one of Megadeth's best ever. While not highly reccomended, So Far, So Good...So What! is still an ok album that should be sought after by fans of Megadeth.

Also known as the threshold for "In My Darkest Hour" (one of the band's best and well known songs, The group's third outting is more than just that. So Far So Good wreaks of underrated material and is criminally overlooked at times. "Mary Jane" feels like a compilation of different songs into one with its shifting pace, and it's effective and memorable in delivery, "Hook In Mouth" has a bold "hook" if you will and some terrific riffs, they nailed the "Anarchy In The U.K." in a way only they could pull off, "Liar" is a darkly humorous track, and "Into The Lungs of Hell" is a well-played opening instrumental which paves way into the album's crowning achievement: "Set The World Afire." Cataclysmic, atmospheric, and all around powerfully performed, this song hits every right note with its powerful riffs, tempo changes, tense vibe, and flawless solos and is one of the greatest thrash songs ever written. The other material is quite enjoyable and helps make this record almost as good as the records it's sandwiched by. Sits around a 4 and a 4.5 for me easily.

Dave's emotions transformed into an album. You can feel the vitriol, remorse, and hopefulness in the whole album (except maybe the Sex Pistols cover.) Many see this album as a step down from the lofty, semi-jazzy heights reached in Peace Sells, but I don't see it that way. I view this album as a thrash album first and foremost. What makes it stand out is the fact that every song has purpose and meaning, all the riffs have that signature punkish aspect combined with speed and a little bit of technicality, and Dave's lyrics have turned from the make-believe to the political and the personal. A stepping stone to their magnum opus to be sure, but an important aspect in Megadeth's catalog nonetheless.

There are some great songs on here. Unfortunately, there are a lot of average songs, too. "Into the Lungs of Hell," "Set the World Afire" and the fan-favorite "In My Darkest Hour" are all fantastic songs worthy of the highest praise.

SFSGSW is their most underrated record of their classic TM era. Always have mixed reviews from critics and
metal heads. Sure, we find some weak points here like Chuck Behler's performance in some tracks or the
sound production but how can we rate bellow 4 an album with tracks like Into the Lungs of Hell, Set the World
Afire, Mary Jane, Hook in Mouth and specially In My Darkest Hour? So Far, So Good... So What! is an absolute
speed/thrash metal classic. That's a fact in my book.

Somewhat unfortunately, for this album at least, MegaDave and Co. were letting their indulgences affect the quality of their music. While SFSGSW is by no means a bad album, and in fact still a great slab of metal, the hunger and rage of PSBWB just doesn't come across as well here. While it opens with an amazing instrumental, and indeed includes one of MegaDave's greatest songs ever (In My Darkest Hour), it feels a bit more dull than what came before, and certainly what was to come after...

This one probably sounds worse than it actually is, simply because it was riding on the tremendously popular Peace Sells. Given the overall power of that record, this one seems to fall a little flat (though Into the Lungs of Hell and In My Darkest Hour are pretty nice standouts). Overall this was a bit of a stutter-step for the band during their early period, probably caught in a bit of a idea loop until Rust In Peace would follow. (2.9/5)

I remember listening to this album and saying to myselft, "This is the best Mustaine could come up with inbetween Peace Sells and Rust in Peace??" Honestly, this album isn't even very good, and I love 80's thrash metal. Its crazy just how much Megadeth improved from this To R.I.P., I don't think I know of any band that has progressed that much in one album.

Underrated.. this album is killer. The only downers here are the Punk Cover "Anarchy in the UK" and the somehow undeveloped 502. The rest of the album consists of speed and thrash metal classics. It is no secret, that most of the songs on "So Far, So Good, So What?" didn't make it onto "Peace Sells....." or "Killing Is My Business".
