"Iconoclast Vol. I" is simply put the best Heaven Shall Burn album to date. With interesting new sound experiments, like the dance beat on "Murderers Of All Murderers" or overall the courage to rather step-down than turning it up to the max, Heaven Shall Burn showcase a brilliant progression from the precessor "Deaf To Our Prayers".
Only problem are slight sound problems, as certain guitar melodies and especially the bass playing get drowned in the mix. But this are only minor points, as the overall sound suits the album very well.
To sum it up with one sentence: This is Metalcore with strong Melodic Death Metal influences, and that at it's best.

On Iconoclast part 1, Heaven Shall Burn truly create a phenomenal metalcore album. And really on this album Heaven Shall Burn come off as more of a melodic death metal band that knows how to effectively incorporate a breakdown without stopping the momentum of a song than a run of the mill metalcore outfit. They also incorporate a lot of dynamics throughout the songs. Just look at A Dying Ember and its almost ambient bridge that builds into an absolutely stunning an epic climax. It's still an hour long metalcore album though and kind of drags towards the end. Still if you want a catchy, adrenaline pumping, even epic metalcore album, Iconoclast is here for you. Best songs: Endzeit, A Dying Ember, and Atonement.

Juxtaposing pure rage with melodic piano, death metal influence and tying it all together with speedy and varied instrumentals, Heaven Shall Burn have created a concept album that shatters many genre barriers and shows the band can deftly leap through multiple sound experiments and pull off their work with ease.

There 5th full length proves a more interesting listen than there previous couple, well still heavy, in every sense of the word this album see's HSB starting to branch out a bit

On the outside, Iconoclast seems like a great album: the vocals are semi-unique, lead single "Endzeit" is metalcore at its best, and it's based around several sociopolitical lyrical themes. Coming from Germany, I hoped these guys would stand out from all the other metalcore being produced on our side of the Atlantic.
Listening to the album is another story, because the hopes instilled by "Endzeit" quickly turn out to be empty promises. Nearly all the riffs are quite forgettable, the vocals become tiresome halfway through, and the lyrics aren't that great either. After giving this more than a fair chance, the only tracks that stand out are (you guessed it) "Endzeit", "Black Tears" (a well done Edge of Sanity cover), and the two instrumentals, "Awoken" and "Equinox". Here's hoping these guys put more of their apparent ideological passion into their music, because for now, they're not doing anything truly interesting.

I listened to this on iTunes and was punched in the face by Endzeit. This is heavy heavy heavy heavy. I recommend Endzeit, Murderer of All Murderers, and Bombs of My Saviours.

This is the first album form this band that i have ever heard, and i have to say wow. The first 2 tracks are so perfect, they meld so well. as does the rest of the album but my personal favorite track is number 4 the dance beat is jsut top notch.
